About the Client
Our client is a public accounting firm headquartered in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand, with branches across the country. They are growing their existing offshore team to support their accounting function, working across both New Zealand and Australian client portfolios. This role exists to provide reliable accounting and compliance support across a diverse range of client entities.
The Role
As an Intermediate Accountant, you'll support a portfolio of New Zealand and Australian clients across bookkeeping, tax compliance, and annual accounting requirements. You'll work closely with Senior Accountants, Managers, and Directors to prepare accurate client deliverables and keep accounts up to date. Success in this role means producing high-quality work on time, communicating effectively with different stakeholders, and being a dependable member of the accounting team.
What You'll Do
Perform basic bookkeeping tasks, including bank reconciliations, fixed asset management, and managing Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. Update client records, request information from clients to complete accounts, and send reminders as needed.
Prepare GST reports and returns for New Zealand clients
Prepare annual documents such as Financial Statements, Annual Reports, Resolutions, and Taxation Summaries for review.
Prepare Individual, Trust, Partnership, and Company tax returns.
Support Senior Accountants, Managers, and Directors with various other accounting duties as needed.
What We're Looking For
Tertiary qualification in accounting is essential.
At least 2 years of relevant experience in New Zealand and/or Australian accounting firms.
Strong understanding of New Zealand and/or Australian accounting and taxation principles.
Proficiency in Xero
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to adjust communication style for different audiences.
Excellent attention to detail, both in written communication and overall work quality.
Team-oriented with a willingness to assist and collaborate with colleagues.
Effective time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines and complete tasks efficiently.
