Intelligent Automation Engineer - Contractor

This is a contractor position and will start as a 6-month contract with opportunity for extension.

The Intelligent Automation Engineer builds automation that handles customer compliance filings — annual reports, charitable registration renewals, business formations, and registered agent changes — across state and government portals, as part of Agentic Operations' migration from legacy RPA (Fortra/UiPath) to an agentic stack built on Browserbase. This role suits a technically minded RPA or web automation engineer looking for hands-on exposure to agentic, AI-assisted development, measured by reliable, production-grade delivery on a predictable sprint cadence.

Responsibilities

• Design and build browser automations for government agency portals — data scraping, form fill, and filing submission — using Browserbase or comparable frameworks.
• Use Claude Code as the primary environment for agentic coding of automations.
• Author automation specs using OpenSpec prior to implementation for structured handoff to agentic coding.
• Migrate and refactor existing RPA-based workflows (Python/RPA tooling) to the agentic stack as assigned.
• Integrate with internal and third-party APIs supporting the filing and data pipeline.
• Participate fully in Agile ceremonies on a two-week sprint cadence — planning, standups, backlog refinement, demos, retros — tracking work in Jira with accurate status and estimates.
• Troubleshoot production issues in live automations, including CAPTCHA/bot-detection, portal changes, and filing failures.
• Document completed automations and collaborate with product, data, and ops stakeholders to validate output against business and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Claude Code or a comparable agentic/AI-assisted coding tool.
• Experience with Browserbase or a comparable web automation framework (e.g., Playwright, Puppeteer, Selenium).
• Prior experience with RPA tools (e.g., UiPath, Fortra Automate) and/or Python-based web automation.
• Working knowledge of REST APIs.
• Experience working in Jira within a Scrum/Agile team, including sprint planning and backlog hygiene.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills for brittle, change-prone web targets (e.g., CAPTCHA/bot-detection handling), with attention to detail and clear communication.

Preferred

• Experience using OpenSpec (or a comparable spec-driven design approach) to scope work for agentic coding.
• Experience contributing to a migration from legacy RPA to agentic AI automation.
• Familiarity with compliance, legal, or regulatory filing domains, and/or SQL experience (MySQL/MSSQL) for filing and customer data.

Compensation: 

This is a contract position engaged as an independent contractor, not eligible for Harbor Compliance's employee benefits program. Compensation is based on an hourly or fixed monthly rate, determined by skill set, experience, and scope of work, and will be specified in the contractor agreement.
