Louisiana State University of Alexandria is seeking an adjunct in Africana Studies to teach in an online format the following 3 credit course as part of our Bachelor of General Studies in Africana Studies program: AFST 3030 – Black Musical Traditions. This course acts as a survey of Black African musical traditions, examining West & Central African musical ideas and tracing the spread and manifestation of these ideas in the variety of music of the Atlantic World.

Responsibilities:

·         Developing a class syllabus

·         Ordering required textbooks before start of class

·         Preparing lectures or teaching pdfs and student assignments

·         Being available for student conferences

·         Presenting instruction based on online course description

·         Submitting attendance reporting

·         Evaluating student performance on assignments and exams in a timely manner

·         Submitting midterm and final grades according to university regulations

·         Providing student evaluation of the course

·         Building positive rapport with students and faculty

Physical Requirements:

·         Ability to instruct online in Moodle (an online course in how to teach online and how to use Moodle may be required)

·         Availability for student conferences

·         Ability to grade assignments and examinations
