The Position
We are seeking an experienced and adaptable External Contractor in Data Science to support the delivery and ongoing development of a commerce-focused Data Science qualification.
This is a multi-functional academic role, where you may be engaged, depending on operational needs and your expertise, in one or more of the following areas:
- Facilitation
- Assessment
- Critical review of material
You will contribute to building a high-quality, applied Data Science learning experience that prepares students to operate effectively at the intersection of data, technology, and business decision-making.
Depending on allocation, responsibilities may include:
Facilitation
- Facilitate engaging, student-centred online learning
- Guide students through complex data science concepts
- Support student learning through discussion and academic support
Assessment
- Assess student submissions in line with academic standards
- Provide clear, constructive, and developmental feedback
- Ensure consistency and fairness in marking
Critical Review of material
- Critical review of qualification and material
- Contribute to the design or revision of:
- Learning materials
- Assessments
- Module content
- Ensure content is current, applied, and aligned with industry practice

Education & Experience Requirements
- A relevant Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems or a relevant field (NQF 8)
- Teaching, tutoring, or facilitation experience in higher education or professional learning environments
- Demonstrated knowledge of data analytics concepts and tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, R, or similar)
- Strong analytical, communication, and feedback skills
- Excellent organisational and time-management abilities
- Familiarity with online learning platforms and digital engagement tools
- A passion for student learning, development, and academic quality
Work Environment Requirements
- Stable, high-speed internet access (preferably fibre)
