Kansas Connections Academy (KCA) is a tuition-free, K-12 online public school serving students throughout Kansas. KCA opened in August 2001 as Elkhart Cyber School, and in 2010 the school became Kansas Connections Academy. KCA is operated in partnership between the Elkhart Unified School District 218 and a contract with Connections Academy of Kansas, LLC, to provide the educational program and other services. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED, and KCA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

Through various curriculum and communication tools, the advisory and electives teacher will consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program. Certified Kansas teachers with any 9-12 electives endorsements or licensing will be considered. Preferred licensure areas include the following: media design, communications, family and consumer science, home economics, technology, and other related STEM/CTE fields

The High School Advisory and Electives Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

  • Support the instructional program with asynchronous web conferencing sessions and synchronous instruction;
  • Complete all grading and conduct parent conferences in a timely manner;
  • Communicate with parents, students and other teachers on a regular basis to develop and update Personal Learning Plans and schedules, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor completion of assignments and coach special projects;
  • Develop a general knowledge of the entire program’s K-12 curriculum and a very detailed knowledge of the grades for which responsible;
  • Support students and parents with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and projects;
  • Keep student records and data up-to-date, including online student and family information, attendance accounting, and logging of all student and parent contacts;
  • Consult with team members and staff learning specialists to develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications to students’ programs to increase student understanding;
  • Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a “school community”;
  • Proctor school-administered benchmark and diagnostic tests as needed;
  • Participate in the administration of State Testing, as directed;
  • Attend field trips and other community activities implemented for families;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Highly qualified and certified to teach grades 9-12 in Kansas
  • Applicants with a current teaching license from another state will be considered, provided they can transfer or obtain a Kansas teaching license upon hire
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite)
