Head of North American LBM Solutions

About Us

Founded in 1992, GenetiQ is a global software company delivering flexible, business management solutions to independently owned businesses in the lumber and building materials industry. Our innovative cloud ERP solution, GenetiQ, is purpose-built for dealers, retailers, wholesalers, and distributors—providing the tools they need to grow, adapt, and thrive.

Executive Summary

The Head of North America LBM (Lumber and Building Materials) Solutions is a strategic leadership role designed to serve as the authoritative bridge between the North American LBM market and GenetiQ’s internal delivery, product, and development teams. Positioned intentionally within the Professional Services/Project Delivery organization rather than Product Management, this role is tasked with accelerating customer outcomes, de-risking implementations, and ensuring that GenetiQ operates as a deeply embedded industry partner rather than a reactive software vendor.

The mandate empowers this role to influence product direction through the lens of operational reality, ensuring that the software aligns with the commercial and competitive requirements of the USA market. By prioritizing operational outcomes over internal roadmap comfort, the role aims to reduce the time between market demand and usable capability, ultimately strengthening GenetiQ’s commercial credibility and scalability in North America.

Role Definition and Strategic Intent

The Head of North America LBM Solutions acts as the "voice of the market" throughout the entire customer lifecycle, from onboarding and solution design to product evolution.

The role is not a passive advisory position but an active leadership function with the following primary objectives:

  • Market Alignment: Ensuring implementations reflect the operational and competitive realities of the North American LBM industry.
  • Operational Integration: Acting as a bridge between USA market demands and internal GenetiQ teams (Delivery, Product, and Development).
  • Industry Partnership: Moving GenetiQ beyond the "vendor" label to become a partner that anticipates customer needs based on deep industry expertise.

Rationale for Organizational Placement

A critical component of this mandate is the decision to house the role within Professional Services/Project Delivery instead of Product Management.

This structure is intended to optimize for specific market outcomes:

Professional Services / Delivery Focus:

  • Primary Driver: Outcome-driven, focusing on customer success, adoption, and time-to-value
  • Market Intelligence: Uses real-world operational insight, identifying customer pain points, friction, and workflows
  • Speed: Prioritises implementation speed, delivering immediate workarounds and practical solutions
  • Optimisation Focus: Balances delivery based on customer urgency and maintaining market credibility

Product Management Focus:

  • Primary Driver: Roadmap-driven, focused on prioritisation and structured release cycles
  • Market Intelligence: Relies on roadmap discussions and broader or more theoretical needs
  • Speed: Moves at release-cycle speed, delivering longer-term architectural improvements
  • Optimisation Focus: Prioritises technical scalability and architectural integrity

By sitting within Delivery, the role maintains direct exposure to the "truth of the market," including failed assumptions, process gaps, and the urgent requirements of onboarding customers.

Core Responsibilities

Responsibilities are categorized into five key pillars of influence:

1. Industry Leadership and Market Intelligence

  • Maintain awareness of USA LBM trends and expectations.
  • Monitor the competitive ERP landscape, including Epicor, ECI Software Solutions, Spruce, BisTrack, DMSi, and Agility.
  • Engage with industry influence networks and buying groups such as LMC, LBM Advantage, Orgill, Emery Jensen and Do it Best.

2. Product Influence and Functional Leadership

  • Translate LBM operational knowledge into commercially grounded functional requirements.
  • Challenge software designs that create operational friction or lack usability.
  • Validate that proposed solutions align with real-world workflows in lumber yards, dispatch offices, and contractor sales environments.

3. Project Acceleration and Delivery Enablement

  • Act as a strategic escalation point for USA projects facing operational misalignment.
  • Standardize delivery by helping customers adopt proven industry processes rather than requesting excessive customization.
  • Reduce ambiguity in the discovery phase to prevent design rework.

4. Customer and Executive Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted advisor during workshops, steering committees, and strategic planning.
  • Represent the interests of GenetiQ’s most strategically important customers internally.

5. Internal Enablement

  • Educate developers, consultants, and project managers on USA LBM practices.
  • Develop reusable industry templates, process models, and recommended solution patterns to improve consultant onboarding.

Required Experience and Characteristics

This role identifies a specific profile necessary to command authority both internally and with high-level external stakeholders:

  • Industry Tenure: 10+ years within the USA LBM industry is considered essential
  • Dual Perspective: Experience working both inside an LBM merchant/distributor and within an ERP software vendor ecosystem.
  • Operational Depth: Mastery of purchasing, inventory, pricing, dispatch, sales, estimating, rebates, EDI, and multi-branch distribution.
  • Soft Skills: The ability to simplify complex discussions and influence senior stakeholders without relying on hierarchical power.

Organizational Authority and Operating Model

  • The Company believe this to be a pivotal role in our USA growth an it will have significant support and operational authority.
  • The relationship model is defined as Market Authority + Technical Expertise, not Business Requestor + Technical Gatekeeper.

Key Operating Principles:

1. Outcomes Over Comfort:

  • When a market requirement is identified, the organizational default must be "How do we achieve this?" rather than "Why can this not be done?"

2. Accountability:

  • Product and Development leadership are accountable for the quality and timeliness of their response to market-critical requirements.

3. Strategic Weight:

  • The role's input must be treated as expert market intelligence, not merely "feature chasing" or "project pressure."

4. Escalation Rights:

  • This role has the authority to escalate directly to senior leadership if customer outcomes or market credibility are jeopardized by technical resistance or organizational friction.
