Description
The Korea Associate will help deliver GSCC’s Korea in Asia strategy: using South Korea’s role as an export-oriented industrial power, technology leader, and regional energy actor to accelerate both Korea’s domestic green transition and cleaner energy pathways across Asia.
The role sits at the intersection of Korean politics, media, climate and industrial policy, corporate engagement, and regional campaign work. The Associate will identify and amplify evidence that green transition (“GX”) pays—through energy security, competitiveness, export resilience, industrial opportunity and credible regional leadership.
A central part of the role is to bring external signals back into Korea: demonstrating how energy choices in Korea affect its commercial interests, reputation and partnerships across Asia, while helping connect demand for affordable, reliable clean power in Asian markets with Korean government and corporate decision-makers.
How you'll contribute
- Identify timely media opportunities linked to Korean domestic policy moments, energy announcements, corporate decisions, international summits and regional developments.
- Translate regional developments into clear Korean-facing stories: for example, how clean-power demand in ASEAN markets, supply-chain requirements, green industrial competition or fossil-fuel risks affect Korean companies and policymakers.
- Support the delivery of the GX Pays strategy by linking Korea’s domestic transition agenda to its trade, financing, industrial investment and supply-chain relationships across Asia.
- Identify opportunities to elevate credible voices from partner countries into Korean political, corporate and media debate.
- Work with regional colleagues to convert country-level campaign wins, proof points and partner perspectives into strategic assets for Korean domestic advocacy.
- Produce concise, accurate and usable intelligence on Korean energy and industrial-policy developments, including electricity demand, clean-power policy, fossil-fuel infrastructure, grid reform, corporate procurement and key investment decisions.
- Support outreach to Korean companies with regional exposure, particularly in batteries, EVs, electronics, semiconductors, data centres, industrial manufacturing, energy and infrastructure.
- Coordinate closely with Korea colleagues, Asia Regional Team colleagues and relevant GSCC thematic or country teams to ensure shared priorities, consistent messaging and effective use of regional opportunities.
- Help identify which regional signals and interventions are most effective in influencing Korean domestic discussions, and refine the strategy accordingly.
Our ideal candidate has
- 6–8 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: industrial or policy campaigners, journalism, research, communications related to South Korea, ideally with exposure to climate, energy or industrial transformation.
- Strong understanding of South Korean politics, media, business and public-policy dynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively for different audiences, including media, policymakers, corporate stakeholders and civil-society partners.
- Professional fluency in Korean and English, including excellent written Korean and English.
- Experience pitching stories to journalists, building media relationships or delivering communications campaigns.
- Ability to analyse complex policy, economic or technical information and turn it into concise, compelling communications.
- Strong research, organisational and project-management skills; ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines.
- Comfort working independently in a fast-moving, politically sensitive environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across cultures, time zones and teams.
