Gender Affirming Care Clinical Lead

Location: Otago / Southland

FTE: 0.2, on contract. 


We are seeking a Clinical Advisor with interest and experience in establishing a community-based gender affirming hormone therapy assessment pathway for the Southern Region. The role is suitable for a General Practitioner or a Nurse Practitioner with experience in gender affirming care and is approximately 0.2 FTE, fixed-term (up to three years) contract, with flexibility to be based anywhere within the Southern region.


It will involve establishing, connecting and supporting a local community based network of skilled providers who can accept referrals from colleagues for adults (18+) expressing desire for Gender Affirming Hormone Treatment, under an informed consent process and supporting the primary care team to manage their own patients. It will involve connections with community based NGOs and support services, triage of referrals and advice while supporting the Southern Community with education and upskilling.

What are we looking for:


  • General Practitioner or Nurse Practitioner with experience in gender affirming care
  • At least 3 years' experience in the primary health sector
  • Understanding of the local health context in Otago/Southland
  • Able to work collaboratively in a multi disciplinary team, to achieve change
  • A high degree of self-motivation, willingness and self-responsibility to continually improve
  • Able to lead, collaborate and influence stakeholders as required
  • Has well-developed advisory/consultative and facilitation skills
  • Current full drivers licence
  • Focus on equity
