Job Description

AppliedVR is looking for a mission-driven Full-Stack Developer with a passion for transforming healthcare through innovative technology to support our web applications and infrastructure. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, Web and working closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders, the role will focus on contributing to the architecture and hands-on development of building systems used in delivering our program to patients. The ideal candidate is a developer with a strong sense of ownership looking to contribute across the entire stack.

Roles & Responsibilities (are not limited to the following):

  • Work cross-functionally with Product, Data, and other stakeholder teams to design and implement RESTful APIs that power key application features and ensure a seamless, responsive user experience.
  • Develop interactive, performant, and accessible front-end experiences using modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, or equivalents).
  • Monitor existing systems for performance, reliability, and security, troubleshooting issues across the stack.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, observability, and deployment automation.
  • Write and maintain automated tests (RSpec, Mintest, Jest, Cypress), ensuring high code quality and coverage.
  • Participate in code reviews and advocate for clean, maintainable, and idiomatic code.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Participate in Agile processes such as stand-ups, retrospectives, and sprint planning to promote collaboration and accountability.

  • Back End: Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, Redis/Valkey
  • Front End: React, Next.js
  • Testing: RSpec, Capybara, Jest, Cypress
  • Auth & Security: Devise, JWT, SOPS, AWS Secrets Manager
  • Databases: MySQL

Experience & Qualifications Preferred

  • 3+ years experience in modern MVC frameworks, including data modeling (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Flask, Django, Vue.js)
  • 2+ years experience integrating front-end components with JSON APIs
  • 1+ years of working in modern JavaScript (ES6+) and at least one SPA framework (React, Vue, Angular)
  • Prior experience writing automated testing using modern frameworks (Front-End: Jest, React Testing Library, and Cypress, Back-End: RSpec and Minitest, or equivalent) 
  • Familiarity with relational databases, query optimization, and schema design
  • Proficient with Git and CI/CD workflows
  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment (e.g. medical device, healthcare, finance)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work autonomously, remotely, in dynamic, fast-paced environment

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $145,000 - $155,000.  The salary range describes the minimum to maximum base salary range for this position across all US locations. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to relevant qualifications, depth of experience, skill set, certifications, training, education, and specific work location. The compensation packages may be adjusted based on candidate work location, due to differences in the cost of living for the given location.  Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range during the hiring process.

  • Employee benefits include medical/dental/vision healthcare benefits, 401k retirement plan with a 4% employer match, employer-paid life insurance and long-term disability benefits, employee assistance program, remote work stipend and car allowance (for field reps only). 
  • We offer the following paid time off programs:
    • Flexible Time Off for vacation
    • 11+ paid holidays per year
    • Sick time is accrued at one hour for every 30 hours worked.  
      • Accrual is capped at 72 hours.
    • Up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave for new parents
