What You’ll Do 

The Full-stack BTP Application Architect will provide deep technical expertise and hands-on leadership in the design, engineering, and delivery of enterprise-grade SAP products built on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). 

Reporting to an Engineering Manager, this role will take ownership of technical workstreams and lead projects from a technical perspective. You will work independently with client stakeholders, make sound technical decisions within the agreed architecture and delivery framework, and collaborate with engineering and practice leadership on broader technical strategy. 

The role will focus on the design, development, modernization, integration, and production deployment of Multi-Target Applications (MTAs) using the Cloud Application Programming (CAP) model, ABAP, and other SAP and cloud-native technologies. 

You will be expected to remain hands-on throughout the project lifecycle, supporting technical discovery, architecture, development, deployment, go-live, and production stabilization. 

Critical to This Role: Technical Engineering Expertise 

This is primarily a technical architecture and engineering role. 

The Architect must bring deep, hands-on SAP engineering experience, with the ability to: 

• Design, build, deploy, and support production-grade applications on SAP BTP 

• Lead the technical execution of projects from discovery and solution design through development, deployment, and go-live 

• Provide expert guidance on SAP CAP, Node.js, TypeScript, ABAP, integrations, security, data architecture, and DevOps 

• Translate business requirements into secure, scalable, maintainable, and production-ready technical solutions 

• Make day-to-day technical decisions independently and escalate broader strategic or delivery considerations appropriately 

• Work directly with engineering teams to review code, solve complex technical problems, and remove delivery blockers 

• Contribute to engineering standards, reusable patterns, technical guardrails, and development best practices 

• Serve as a trusted technical advisor to client stakeholders, representing the engineering team confidently and without requiring day-to-day supervision 

• Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and practice leadership on technical direction, capability development, and longer-term strategy 

We are specifically looking for: 

• A senior technical SAP professional with deep expertise in SAP BTP, CAP, ABAP, and enterprise application delivery 

The ideal candidate can take ownership of a technical workstream, guide engineers, contribute hands-on, engage clients independently, and remain accountable for the quality and successful delivery of the solution. 

Functional SAP or ERP process knowledge is beneficial, but it is not required. This role is intended for an expert technical architect and engineer, rather than a functional consultant or business-process architect. 

Architectural Accountability 

You will design, build, and support highly available, secure, scalable, and performant platform components across: 

• TypeScript-based Node.js CAP service architectures 

• Enterprise CDS domain and persistence modeling 

• SAP BTP services, environments, and account structures 

• Multi-Target Application configuration, packaging, and deployment 

• ABAP development, extensibility, integration, and troubleshooting 

• HANA Cloud and PostgreSQL data architecture 

• Identity and Access architecture (XSUAA, IAS/IPS, OAuth 2.0, SAML, JWT) 

• SAP Destination, Connectivity, and Cloud Connector architecture 

• OData, REST, RFC, BAPI, IDoc, and event-driven integrations 

• React-based UI architecture 

You will also contribute expertise across: 

• SAPUI5 and Fiori modernization approaches 

• Cloud-native architecture principles (eventing, APIs, microservices, and containerization) 

• End-to-end DevOps architecture, including CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and operational readiness 

• Clean-core extension strategies 

• ECC → S/4HANA transition and modernization initiatives 

• Application performance, resilience, scalability, security, and maintainability 

You will serve as a senior technical expert and trusted advisor across engineering, product, SAP ABAP teams, client stakeholders, and business teams, working in partnership with the Engineering Manager and practice leadership. 

Requirements

What You Bring 

You will be trusted to own technical decisions within your projects and workstreams, while aligning with the overall direction established by engineering and practice leadership. 

You must be comfortable operating at every level—from discussing architecture recommendations with senior client stakeholders to working directly with engineers on application design, code reviews, deployments, and complex technical issues. 

Core Requirements 

• Deep, hands-on experience designing and delivering production applications on SAP BTP 

• Proven ability to lead the technical execution of projects from discovery and architecture through development, deployment, go-live, and production support 

• Demonstrated experience working independently with enterprise clients as a trusted technical advisor 

• Strong technical leadership skills combined with a willingness and ability to remain hands-on 

• Proven ability to translate business requirements into pragmatic, scalable, and production-ready technical solutions 

• Ability to make high-quality technical decisions independently while working within established architectural and delivery standards 

• Experience contributing to architecture standards, engineering practices, reusable patterns, and technical governance 

• Demonstrated ability to guide developers and collaborate effectively with engineering managers, technical leads, and cross-functional teams 

• Strong engineering judgment and the ability to explain and defend complex technical recommendations 

• Functional SAP and ERP process knowledge is a bonus, but is not required 

Technical Requirements 

• Expert-level SAP Cloud Application Programming Model experience 

• Expert-level Node.js architecture and development experience 

• Expert-level TypeScript proficiency 

• Strong hands-on ABAP development experience, including enhancements, integrations, custom development, and troubleshooting 

• Deep experience with SAP BTP platform architecture and services 

• Demonstrated experience building, deploying, and supporting live enterprise solutions on SAP BTP 

• Mastery of MTA configuration, packaging, deployment, service binding, and environment management 

• Advanced experience with CDS modeling, service definitions, persistence, and authorization 

• Strong experience with SAP HANA Cloud and PostgreSQL 

• Strong cross-platform and enterprise integration expertise 

• Extensive SAP ecosystem knowledge, including S/4HANA, ECC, OData, RFC, BAPI, and IDoc 

• Deep understanding of XSUAA, IAS, IPS, OAuth 2.0, SAML, JWT, role collections, and authorization models 

• Strong experience with SAP Destination, Connectivity, and Cloud Connector services 

• Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, logging, and production support 

• Experience designing solutions for performance, resilience, scalability, maintainability, and security 

Optional Qualifications 

• Experience with SAPUI5 and Fiori development 

• Experience with React in SAP BTP ecosystems 

• Experience with SAP Integration Suite, Event Mesh, or API Management 

• Experience with Kyma, Kubernetes, or container-based architectures 

• Experience implementing clean-core extension strategies 

• Experience supporting ECC-to-S/4HANA modernization programs 

• Experience in global or distributed SAP landscapes 

• Knowledge of SAP functional areas or enterprise processes, including FI/CO, SD, Finance, Order-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, Supply Chain, or Manufacturing
