About the Role

HireGummy is hiring on behalf of one of its clients, a digital experience agency working with major retail, manufacturing, and enterprise brands across Australia and Southeast Asia.

The client specialises in building and optimising high-performance eCommerce and digital platforms, with a strong focus on Shopify development and Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO).

We are looking for a hands-on Front-End Web Developer with strong Shopify experience who can build and maintain storefronts while also developing and QAing A/B tests using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

This role is suited to someone with 2–3 years of experience who can work independently, solve problems proactively, and deliver clean, scalable code.

Key Responsibilities

Shopify Development

• Develop and maintain Shopify storefronts, themes, and integrations.
• Customise Shopify functionality using Liquid, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and APIs.
• Build responsive, high-performing front-end interfaces.
• Translate Figma designs into production-ready code.
• Integrate third-party apps and APIs.
• Optimise performance, accessibility, and page speed.

CRO & Experimentation

• Build A/B and multivariate tests using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
• Configure and deploy experiments using platforms such as VWO, Optimizely, or Convert.
• QA experiments across browsers and devices before launch.
• Ensure experiments do not negatively impact performance, tracking, or existing functionality.
• Debug live experiments and resolve rendering or tracking issues.
• Translate experiment briefs and designs into measurable variants.

Development & Delivery

• Manage development and experiment tasks through JIRA.
• Handle multiple tickets and priorities concurrently.
• Collaborate with designers, developers, strategists, and account managers.
• Maintain clean, structured, and well-documented code.
• Proactively identify bugs, technical risks, performance issues, and opportunities for improvement.

Communication & Accountability

The developer will work closely with the CTO and development team and is expected to:

• Keep JIRA tickets updated with progress, blockers, and timelines.
• Communicate clearly and proactively.
• Raise technical concerns or questions early.
• Be reliably available and responsive during agreed working hours.
• Take ownership of issues and communicate clearly when mistakes occur.
• Propose and implement appropriate fixes or rollback plans when required.

Required Skills & Experience

• 2–3 years of hands-on web development experience.
• Strong Shopify development experience.
• Advanced proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, including direct DOM manipulation.
• Strong knowledge of Shopify Liquid.
• Hands-on experience building and QAing A/B tests using a CRO platform such as VWO, Optimizely, or Convert.
• Ability to understand, debug, and improve AI-generated code.
• Experience converting Figma designs into production-ready front-end code.
• Understanding of front-end performance optimisation and best practices.
• Experience with APIs and third-party integrations.
• Familiarity with Git and version control.
• Strong attention to detail and structured problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

• Shopify Plus experience.
• Magento / Adobe Commerce exposure.
• React or Vue.js experience.
• Familiarity with GA4 and tag management.
• Understanding of experiment design and statistical significance.
• Interest in eCommerce optimisation and customer experience.

Working Arrangement

This is a remote independent contractor engagement. The successful candidate will be based in North America but must maintain regular availability during Australian business hours (AEST/AEDT).

The contractor is responsible for:

• Reliable internet connectivity.
• Their own development equipment and tools.
• Consistent participation in meetings and team communication.

Growth Opportunity

The role initially focuses on Shopify development and CRO experimentation, with the opportunity to progressively gain experience in Magento / Adobe Commerce frontend development and more complex experimentation work.
