Overview

DecisionPoint seeks a Front End/Human-Centered Design (HCD) Designer Lead to guide user experience design, visual interface development, and usability research for a Department of Defense (DoD) modernization program that supports Casualty and Mortuary Affairs (CMA) operations across Service branches.

The HCD Designer Lead will champion user advocacy by facilitating workshops, journey mapping, and rapid prototyping to align interface design with mission workflows and stakeholder needs. This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead human-centered design workshops and journey mapping sessions to identify user needs, service touchpoints, and workflow pain points across CMA mission areas.
  • Translate qualitative insights into personas, use cases, and user stories that guide interface development and modernization planning.
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to rapidly test concepts with stakeholders and refine design direction.
  • Design and implement responsive, accessible, and mobile-ready front-end interfaces that meet DoD standards and WCAG 2.1 accessibility requirements.

  • Support iterative design and feedback cycles, integrating user input through focus groups, usability testing, and sprint reviews.
  • Document and present UI/UX design artifacts including style guides, component libraries, and usability reports for review and approval.
  • Apply human-centered and data-driven design methodologies to improve workflow efficiency, reduce cognitive load, and increase mission usability.
  • Conduct A/B testing and UX performance benchmarking, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure designs accommodate low-bandwidth and field conditions, optimizing for reduced image sets, caching, and limited connectivity environments.
  • Contribute to the creation of in-application help tools and guided experiences to improve learnability and reduce training burden.
  • Mentor junior designers and ensure design consistency across all applications and task areas.
