The developer will manage content publishing, page updates, and technical SEO maintenance within an established Shopify environment. They are also responsible for extending functionality through custom apps and scripts while ensuring high-quality self-QA.
Contract type: Freelance / B2B contract, ongoing on a rolling monthly basis
Time commitment: 5–7 hours per week, spread across the week (not batched into one day)
Time zone: Asia, Europe
We're hiring a Freelance Shopify Developer to support one of our clients — a global consumer electronics brand and category leader, selling direct-to-consumer on Shopify. The store spans over 10,000 pages with product SKUs in the hundreds, across multiple regional storefronts.
This is not a build-from-scratch project. The brand already runs on an established design system and theme. What's needed is someone who can execute inside that existing, mature Shopify environment — publishing content, maintaining pages, fixing technical SEO issues, and occasionally extending functionality through custom apps or scripts — accurately, on schedule, and without needing to be chased.
The work is steady and recurring: several blog posts and landing pages every week, ongoing technical SEO hygiene, and ad hoc theme or app work when something can't be solved through existing templates. Strong daily communication and reliable self-QA matter as much as the technical skill itself.
Publishing 4–5 blog posts per week from supplied content, built exactly to spec (structure, images, alt text, internal links, FAQ blocks, tables), with meta titles, descriptions, and URL slugs set as provided.
Building and updating collection and landing pages using existing sections and templates, replicating across regional storefronts where needed.
Working through a recurring technical SEO list: broken links, redirect chains, canonical tags, structured data, indexation controls, sitemap and hreflang issues, and Core Web Vitals improvements.
Liquid, JSON template, and metafield work inside the existing theme, including building or modifying a custom Shopify app or script when a task calls for it.
Self-QA on everything before it goes live, with a daily written update on progress and blockers.
5+ years of hands-on Shopify development experience
A genuine Shopify specialist — this role isn't a fit for developers positioned as generalists across multiple platforms (e.g. WordPress + Shopify + Webflow)
Demonstrated ability to build or modify Shopify apps and scripts, not just edit themes
Strong written and spoken English — you'll be in daily written contact with the team
Available for a short daily check-in and same-day replies during working hours
Highly organized — able to hold a fixed weekly publishing cadence without reminders
Hands-on technical SEO experience as a developer — understanding why a redirect, canonical, or schema change matters, not just how to implement it
Experience working with an agency or an in-house SEO/marketing team, taking briefs and shipping to spec
Experience with multi-region or multi-storefront Shopify setups
Comfortable with bulk operations — CSV imports, Shopify Admin API, Matrixify or similar tools
Familiar with GSC, Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, or Semrush outputs as a source of work
Experience on large-scale Shopify stores (thousands of pages, hundreds of SKUs)
