Type: Freelance / Contract

Hours: Flexible - 2 to 4 days per week

Location: Remote

Team Size: Small, cross-functional team

Summary

We are currently building a new educational mobile and web game to replace and update one of our key existing titles. As we progress towards a full launch we are in need of extra QA capacity.

Our goal is to ensure that we are rapidly delivering high quality kids-safe experiences for our customers. Focusing especially on out-of-game areas like onboarding, subscriptions, and account migration, we need help to reliably test our apps on a rapid release cycle.

To do this we are looking for individuals who are freelance to take on an initial 3 months period to support our existing QA with an initial 1 month review point. Please note this is not a full time or employee role. We are remote but are looking for candidates close to our or in our time zone (UK).

We estimate the time will be up to 39 days over this 3 month period. (Roughly 2-3 days per week but may need some flexibility depending on needs and tests required). We need enough flexibility to able to match our needs but we use a sprint based rhythm of builds with a build roughly every two weeks.

Role Overview

We are looking for a meticulous, highly self-motivated Freelance Senior QA Tester to help us deliver flawless, engaging, and compliant experiences across our suite of games and web platforms.

In this role, you will test kids' games across multiple mobile and web platforms (iOS, Android, Amazon, Amazon Kids+, and HTML5) as well as our web-based account management portal. Beyond daily testing, you will take full ownership of maintaining and extending our master test plans, ensuring our regression coverage expands alongside new feature releases and platform updates.

If you are a detail-obsessed tester who excels at building structured test cases, knows how to extract actionable logs, and thrives in a tight-knit remote environment, we’d love to work with you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Test Plan Ownership & Extension: Write, maintain, and continually extend comprehensive test plans, test matrixes, and test scripts across all platforms to ensure full coverage as new games, features, and web portal functionality are introduced.
  • Multi-Platform Execution: Execute structured manual and functional test passes driven by your test plans across iOS, Android, Amazon devices, Amazon Kids+, web browsers (HTML5 games), and our web account management portal.
  • Bug Reporting & Tracking: Write clear, concise, and highly detailed bug reports linked directly to relevant test plan cases, complete with exact reproduction steps, expected vs. actual results, logs, screenshots, and video recordings.
  • Build Deployment & Log Extraction: Sideload development builds onto physical test devices and extract relevant crash/device logs (via Xcode, ADB/Android Logcat, or Charles Proxy) to assist developers in debugging.
  • App Store & Platform Compliance: Audit builds against Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore, and Amazon Kids+ submission guidelines, keeping compliance requirements integrated into the active test plan (including child privacy standards like COPPA).
  • Test Automation Support: Comfortably run, monitor, and assist with automated test scripts, integrating them into the broader test plan strategy to streamline regression cycles.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with developers, designers, and producers in an agile, remote environment to advocate for quality throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on QA testing experience covering mobile apps/games (iOS & Android) and web applications.
  • Test Planning Expertise: Proven track record of designing, extending, and updating structured test plans, test suites, and test cases from functional specifications or evolving product builds.
  • Platform Expertise: Hands-on experience testing on Amazon Appstore, Amazon Kids+, and HTML5 games, alongside standard iOS and Android environments.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Solid understanding of app store submission criteria, design guidelines, and children's digital privacy standards (COPPA / GDPR-K).
  • Tooling Proficiency:
    • Proficient with bug tracking and test management software (e.g., Jira, TestRail, Zephyr, Linear).
    • Skilled in build provisioning tools (e.g., TestFlight, Google Play Beta, Firebase App Distribution).
    • Experienced in log extraction tools (Xcode, Android Studio / ADB, console logs).
  • Automation Familiarity: Comfortable running automated test suites (e.g., Appium, Selenium, Playwright) and interpreting execution reports against the test plan.
  • Attention to Detail: Uncompromising eye for detail—able to spot edge cases, missing test steps, UI/UX inconsistencies, and performance hiccups.
  • Communication & Mindset: Self-driven, highly organized, and able to work independently while staying connected with a small, remote team.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with network traffic monitoring/proxy tools (e.g., Charles Proxy, Fiddler).
  • Background in testing web portals involving user accounts, subscription management, or authentication flows.
  • Basic scripting knowledge to help maintain or update existing test scripts.

How to Apply

Please submit your CV along with:

  1. A brief overview of your target device lab (what physical devices you currently have access to).
  2. An example or short description of how you approach writing and extending a test plan for a multi-platform release.
  3. A redacted sample of a high-quality bug report you’ve written in the past.
  4. Your day/hourly rate and weekly availability (number of days/week).
