The Financial Advocate manages the financial clearance process for oncology patients by verifying insurance, obtaining authorizations, and creating cost estimates. They also identify financial distress and connect patients with internal and external resources to ensure timely access to care.
Responsibilities
Serves as front-line support for the oncology-related services within Piedmont Healthcare. Reviews account for oncology-related services to ensure completeness prior to patient arrival. Prepares for patient visit(s) by verifying insurance coverage, confirming benefits, determining authorization requirements, initiating and obtaining pre-certification/prior authorization for recurring visits, and creating estimates to determine pre-service patient liability. Reviews treatment and therapy plans, confirms frequency/length as needed, verifies orders with administration, and pulls additional clinical information from required information systems to support accurate financial clearance. In addition, the Financial Advocate helps reduce barriers to timely oncology care by identifying financial risk/financial distress, educating patients on coverage and expected out-of-pocket responsibility, providing information on financial resources to patients/guarantors, and coordinating referrals to appropriate internal and external support resources.
Qualifications
Education
H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized college or university Preferred
Work Experience
3 years experience in Rev Cycle or related exp in healthcare, with one of those years working specifically within Healthcare Revenue Cycle Required
