The lead coach will provide confidential executive coaching to a community college system chancellor, focusing on leadership strategy, board governance, and organizational change. Responsibilities include conducting monthly coaching sessions, observing key leadership meetings, and supporting the chancellor in achieving annual development goals.

BSI is assembling a proposal to provide confidential executive coaching to the chancellor of a statewide, multi-college public community college system. We’re looking for a lead coach who has held a chief executive role in public higher education and now coaches leaders at that level.

This is an independent contract role, contingent on contract award. The engagement is expected to begin in mid-December 2026 and run for one year, with up to four annual renewals. The most qualified applicants may be contacted for further details regarding experience. Other applicants may not be contacted.

What you’ll do

  • Lead a structured engagement launch with the chancellor and a board-designated sponsor, and draft an engagement charter covering objectives, confidentiality, and success measures
  • Deliver at least one 60–90 minute coaching session per month, mostly virtual, with extra sessions during time-sensitive matters
  • Be available for brief consultations between sessions
  • Coach on leadership strategy, board governance and relationships, leading college presidents and the executive team, change leadership, strategic communications, and conflict navigation
  • Support the chancellor in setting and tracking at least two annual leadership-development goals
  • With the chancellor’s permission, hold confidential conversations with board members, college presidents, and senior leaders
  • Observe selected board, presidents’ council, and cabinet meetings
  • Make up to two onsite visits per year in the Denver metro area
  • Take part in a six-month progress review, and help the chancellor prepare an annual coaching-impact reflection

Required qualifications (all must be met)

  • Served as a chancellor, president, CEO, or system-level executive in public higher education, with direct authority over college or university presidents
  • Reported to, advised, or was evaluated by a governing board that oversees multiple presidents of individually accredited institutions
  • Senior executive experience in a multi-campus or multi-college higher education system serving at least 75,000 students annually
  • At least three years of individualized executive coaching or formal mentoring of sitting community college presidents, system chancellors, or comparable public chief executives who report to a governing board
  • Experience supporting a chief executive through leadership transition, organizational transformation, governance complexity, or significant institutional change

Preferred

  • Community college system experience
  • Coaching credential (ICF ACC, PCC, or MCC, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with Colorado higher education or state-system governance
