The Estimator I supports pre-construction planning by performing quantity takeoffs, managing bid documents, and coordinating with subcontractors and vendors. They also maintain project files, assist with value engineering, and provide status updates to the estimating team.
The Lemartec Estimator I position is an entry-level role responsible for supporting pre-construction planning and estimating activities. This position focuses on developing foundational estimating skills through accurate quantity takeoffs, document control, and coordination of bid information under the guidance of senior estimators. The Estimator I learns company estimating standards, systems, and procedures while building working relationships with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Assist with the collection, organization, and review of documents required for bidding, including drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and reports impacting construction costs.
• Perform basic quantity takeoffs and pricing under supervision.
• Distribute bid documents to subcontractors and suppliers and assist with tracking responses.
• Support communication with vendors, subcontractors, architects, and engineers to clarify scope and documentation.
• Maintain RFI logs, bid contact logs, and estimating files.
• Assist with value engineering reviews by identifying obvious discrepancies or opportunities.
• Document estimating activities and provide status updates to the estimating team.
• Research and assist with pre-qualification of new subcontractors and suppliers.
• Manage electronic and hard-copy project files and update estimating systems.
• Perform administrative tasks related to bidding and pre-construction activities.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and internal control requirements.
• Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field preferred.
• Minimum 1 year experience in estimating/pre-construction.
• Experience and knowledge of construction industry practices, materials, and methods involved and the purchasing of services and supplies.
• Must be proficient with computers including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
• Must be proficient in internet search techniques and online research.
• Must be able to type.
• Strong writing & communication skills in English.
• Detail oriented and organized.
• Understanding of construction and design.
• Ability to read and understand, building plans, scopes of work, specifications, and other construction documents.
• Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
• Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
• Creative and Innovative - must be a "think out-of-the-box" problem solver.
