As our new Environmental Execution Planner, you will be responsible for providing environmental project management and compliance oversight support during project planning and execution phases. You will act as the primary liaison between the project team, construction team, environmental inspection team, contractors, and subject matter experts to ensure environmental requirements are implemented, verified, tracked, and documented throughout project execution.

Your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Providing oversight and technical direction to the Environmental Inspection Team and ensuring inspection activities align with project risks, environmental sensitivities, permits/approvals, and project-specific contractual requirements.
  • Development and implementation of environmental compliance execution strategies, inspection programs, and project-specific management tools.
  • Creation, maintenance, and management of project tracking systems, templates, reporting tools, compliance logs, deficiency trackers and document control processes.
  • Reviewing, tracking, and providing technical comments on contractor environmental management plans, environmental work plans, permit applications, environmental studies and supporting documentation.
  • Coordination of environmental permitting activities, including permit tracking, application review, regulator commitments management and communication of permit requirements to project teams and contractors.
  • Support of procurement activities through preparation of scopes of work and requests for proposals, as required.
  • Providing technical environmental support to project teams, contractors and subject matter experts including support for change management, environmental mitigations, and resolution of environmental issues during pre-construction and execution phases.
  • Participation in project meetings and provide environmental status updates relative to construction schedule and environmental risks and provide compliance recommendations.
  • Maintaining environmental records and document control systems.
  • Monitoring environmental performance trends and support continuous improvement initiative through lessons learned, compliance audits and program enhancements.
  • Escalation of significant environmental risks, incidents, non-conformances, and regulatory issues to project leadership, as required.
  • Providing ad-hoc support based on project requirements.

  • The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $130,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience supporting environmental planning, compliance, and execution for linear infrastructure projects, including both pre-construction and execution phases. Experience with hydroelectric, transmission or utility infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
  • Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Technology, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience working under EPC delivery models is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulatory requirements in Ontario.
  • Experience overseeing environmental inspection programs and coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and subject matter experts.
  • Demonstrated ability to review technical documents, environmental studies, contractor submittals, permit applications, and compliance reports.
  • Experience developing and maintaining project tracking systems, compliance logs, schedules, action item trackers and document management system.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, and competing deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within integrated teams and build positive working relationships
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams and project tracking/reporting tools (i.e. Survey 123).

Location and Travel Requirements

  • This position is remote and may be performed from any location in Ontario.
  • Preference will be given to people located in Northern Ontario due to proximity to project sites and associated travel.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and attend meetings as required.
  • Travel is anticipated to average up to one week per month during execution phase, although actual requirements will be based on project needs and construction activities.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel independently to remove project location required.
