AI Summary

The role involves preparing federal and state individual income tax returns while managing client documentation and deadlines. Additionally, the professional will help establish efficient workflows, best practices, and operational procedures for a new tax service.

AimWell Financial is looking for a seasoned Enrolled Agent (EA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) whose primary responsibility will be preparing tax returns for clients.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys tax work but is looking for a more flexible and sustainable model than traditional accounting. It may be a great fit for a semi-retired professional, a parent seeking flexible scheduling, or an independent practitioner with available capacity.

The workload is expected to vary as the practice develops. Initially it may involve only a handful of returns, while future demand could support a significantly larger volume. Because of this, we are seeking someone who values flexibility and is comfortable working in a dynamic environment.

This position will play an important role in helping establish processes, workflows, and best practices for a new tax preparation service.

Location: This role is located in St. Petersburg, FL. Highly qualified remote candidates may be considered.

What You'll Do

Tax Preparation & Client Service

  • Prepare federal and state individual income tax returns with accuracy and professional judgment.
  • Manage tax preparation workflow and deadlines across a growing client base.
  • Review client tax documentation, identify missing information, and communicate directly with clients regarding tax-related questions and requests.
  • Assist clients with IRS and state tax notices as needed, and conduct ongoing tax projections as the practice requires.

Practice Development & Operations

  • Assist in developing efficient procedures, workflows, and best practices for a new tax preparation practice.
  • Help evaluate tax software, workflow tools, and operational processes as the service is established.
  • Collaborate with financial planners regarding client tax considerations and identify tax planning opportunities to communicate to the advisory team when appropriate.

Why This Role May Be Different

Many tax professionals eventually reach a point where they enjoy the work but no longer enjoy the traditional public accounting model.

We believe talented professionals should be able to continue doing meaningful work without sacrificing flexibility or quality of life.

Whether you are semi-retired, raising a family, operating your own practice, or simply looking for a more balanced opportunity, we are open to creating a flexible arrangement that works for both parties.

Our goal is to build a long-term relationship with an experienced professional who values autonomy, flexibility, and exceptional client service.

Requirements

Experience

  • Active EA or CPA designation in good standing.
  • 10+ years of tax preparation experience, with significant experience independently preparing individual income tax returns.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
  • Experience preparing trust returns preferred.
  • Experience working with higher-net-worth clients preferred.
  • Experience working alongside financial Advisors or financial planning firms preferred.
  • Experience using modern tax preparation and workflow software preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise sound professional judgment; because the advisory team does not provide tax return supervision or review, this role requires a practitioner who can work confidently and autonomously.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism and accountability; takes ownership of producing accurate, high-quality work.

Technology & Tools

  • Proficiency with modern tax preparation and workflow software.
