Engineering Manager - Remote in Spain

About the role

As an Engineering Manager at Auctane, you'll lead a diverse engineering team with a wide range of technical backgrounds and experiences. Your job is to bring out the best in each engineer while building a cohesive, high-performing team that moves in the same direction.

You'll be responsible for setting clear expectations, aligning on common engineering practices, and making thoughtful decisions about where to standardize and where to let teams own their approach. At the same time, you'll partner closely with product to deliver against a shared roadmap and maintain high standards across reliability, scalability, and code quality.

This is a role for someone who is energized by the people side of engineering — building trust, creating clarity around ownership, and helping engineers do the best work of their careers. You'll stay close to the technical work too: shaping architecture decisions, contributing to engineering strategy, and raising the bar across your team.

What will you be doing?

• People Management & Growth: Conduct regular 1:1 meetings, provide actionable feedback, and manage performance. You will coach and mentor engineers, guiding them through our Engineering Career Path and helping them reach their professional goals.
• Team Leadership & Culture: Maintain a supportive, inclusive, and upbeat team culture. You will ensure your cross-functional team (Software Engineers working alongside a Product Manager) remains motivated, aligned, and highly productive.
• Technical Guidance & Challenge: Act as a technical sounding board and guide for the team. While you won't be writing code on a day-to-day basis, you will actively challenge technical decisions, review architectural designs, ensure long-term scalability, and advocate for high-quality, well-tested systems.
• Strategic Alignment: Report directly to the Director of Engineering and collaborate within the Engineering Management Team. You’ll contribute key insights to elevate our engineering organization and execute strategic planning.
• Innovation & Efficiency: Support your team in consistently applying best practices and embracing cutting-edge technologies, including leveraging advanced AI tools to optimize day-to-day efficiency.

What are we looking for?

• Engineering Leadership Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience managing, coaching, and growing software engineering teams 
• Strong Technical Foundation: Proven professional experience as a Software Engineer (whether your background is rooted in Backend, Frontend, Fullstack, or Cloud systems).
• Focus on Delivery: Proven track record of managing engineering execution, optimizing team processes, and consistently driving teams to ship high-quality software on time.
• Technical Guidance (Hands-Off, Brains-On): You won't be writing code on a daily basis, but you must have the technical depth required to review architectural designs, challenge technical decisions, ask the right questions, and guide the team toward sustainable, high-quality software solutions.
• Collaboration & Soft Skills: Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and highly proactive. You possess excellent communication skills and thrive in cross-functional environments, working closely with Product Managers, business stakeholders, and other engineering leads.
• Languages: Fluency in both written and spoken English is a must, as you will be working within a truly international and multicultural team.

The tech stack

• Microservice-based architecture handling more than 2B requests per year.JVM backend stack (Java / Scala)
• Event-driven architecture with multiple databases for each use case (RabbitMQ, MongoDB, MySQL, Elasticsearch, Redis)
• Kubernetes and Docker for application packaging and runtime execution.
• Fast-paced environment: more than 1.5k deployments per year to production with automated CI/CD processes.
• Hands-on AI: Claude available for work, from development to discovery, to automated reviews, alert triages, etc.
• React + TypeScript SPAs across all consumer facing apps
• BFF pattern: frontends talk to per-platform Backend-For-Frontend services that orchestrate the backend microservices, decoupling UI from service topology.
• Design System that gives every Packlink app one accessible, multi-tenant-brandable UI language.
