Founded by serial entrepreneurs Rico Andersen and Martin Hegelund, Shine is a leading European fintech unicorn on a mission to restore the joy of running a business, by ending wasted time on financial admin. Shine offers a connected solution for invoicing, accounting, payroll, business accounts, payments, and financing, meaning business owners can focus their energy on growing a healthy business, not held back by manual admin.
Part of something bigger
Today we're part of Cegid, a European leader in cloud software for finance and accounting. Together we're building Europe's leading financial copilot for small businesses and their accountants.
Shine already supports more than 400,000 small businesses. As part of Cegid, we now reach over one million small businesses and 15,000 accountants across Europe.
We're a multicultural team working from France, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands, contributing to a wider European network that spans Spain, Portugal and Belgium.
Your hiring experience matters
Just as we respect our customers' time, we respect yours. Your experience with Shine and Cegid should feel simple, transparent and genuinely supportive.
If this sounds like somewhere you want to grow, we'd love to hear from you.
Banking Engineering at Shine covers a wide scope: core financial infrastructure, customer-facing banking products, onboarding and compliance flows, and the operational systems that keep everything running reliably. The teams here work on problems where correctness, reliability, and regulatory expectations are not secondary concerns.
As Shine grows across Europe, the Banking organisation is evolving to support more markets, more complex products and regulatory requirements, and higher expectations around reliability, scalability, and operational control.
We are looking for Engineering Managers to join different teams within Banking. During the interview process, we will explore where your experience could have the strongest impact.
You will manage a squad of 4-8 engineers within a defined scope in the Banking organisation. You will be responsible for the team's delivery, the professional growth of the engineers reporting to you, and the quality of the technical decisions made within your scope. You will empower the team to make clear decisions, ship reliably, and keep improving how they work, while staying accountable for the results and health of the team.
We expect you to stay close to the work: reviewing architecture proposals, contributing to design documents, pairing with engineers on difficult problems, following operational health, and helping the team maintain reliable systems. You will take part in incident management, lead incidents where appropriate, and make sure follow-up actions are clear and completed.
We donβt expect you to be the strongest engineer in the room. But we expect you to know what good tech looks like and ensure that team continually improves.
You will work closely with Product, Design, Compliance, Operations, and other engineering teams.
Manage, coach, and support a squad of 4-8 engineers: set clear expectations, give regular feedback, and support each person's growth
Create clarity on priorities, delivery, and technical direction, working closely with your Product Manager
Contribute to the definition of your team's OKRs, making sure they are grounded in customer needs, business priorities, and technical reality
Work across functions: align with Compliance, Operations, and other engineering teams on shared scope and dependencies
Review technical proposals, ask sharp questions, and help the team make trade-offs explicit before decisions are made
Contribute directly when it adds value: design documents, code reviews, incident follow-up, pairing on complex implementations
Improve how the team works: delivery practices, observability, reliability, on-call processes, and engineering quality
Be accountable for the reliability and availability of the systems within your team's scope, including how they are monitored, operated, and improved over time
In partnership with Product and Design, establish a clear technical vision for your area, grounded in sound engineering practices and shaped by the needs of internal teams and customers
Represent the team's technical choices and trade-offs to peers and leadership
Engineering management experience: You have at least a first experience managing engineers, either as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, or Team Lead. You care about helping people grow, setting clear expectations, and creating the structure teams need to ship consistently.
Engineering background: You need to be credible in technical conversations across the area: how data flows through backend systems, where correctness constraints come from, and how technical decisions shape customer and operational outcomes. You should understand trade-offs, ask sharp questions, and recognise when something is being done well or poorly. Writing production code daily is not the expectation.
Distributed systems experience: You're comfortable with event-driven architectures, asynchronous systems, and the trade-offs that come with them. Banking systems are backend-heavy and correctness-critical.
Comfort in regulated environments: You understand why correctness, auditability, and reliability are non-negotiable in financial systems, and what that means for how you build and operate them.
Clarity in complexity: You are comfortable creating structure in ambiguous environments. You can clarify ownership, reduce confusion, and help teams make progress when scope crosses multiple systems, teams, or stakeholders.
Communication across audiences: You can explain a technical trade-off to an engineer, a PM, a Compliance lead, and a VP with the right level of detail for each audience.
Distributed and multicultural teams: You have experience working in remote or hybrid environments, with teams across different countries, cultures, and ways of working. You know how to make context clear, include different perspectives, and create space for people to contribute.
This is a good fit if you want to stay close to the technical work while helping engineers grow. You will join Shine during a phase where we are adapting our banking systems, team structure, and delivery habits to support more markets, more customers, and more complex financial flows.
Banking work rarely stays inside one team or one system. Product decisions affect operations, compliance requirements affect architecture, and technical choices affect how quickly other teams can build on top. You will help the team ship while creating the clarity, ownership, and technical discipline needed for financial systems that businesses rely on every day.
π Location: We are flexible. You can work hybrid from one of our hubs (Paris, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin) or fully remote, with regular travel for team meetups.
