The Engineering Manager will own the end-to-end development and delivery of complex software projects while leading a distributed team of engineers. They are responsible for maintaining system reliability, security, and performance while fostering a culture of technical craftsmanship and accountability.
About the Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager who takes end-to-end ownership of technology and delivery.
This is not a role where your scope is limited to a predefined roadmap or set of tickets. We’re looking for someone who thinks and operates like a founder of the technology function — proactive, self-driven, technically strong, and accountable for outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Own the end-to-end development and delivery of complex software projects, from architecture and coding through deployment and production.
Lead and mentor a distributed team of backend, frontend, and QA engineers across different time zones.
Stay hands-on with architecture, coding, debugging, and code reviews.
Work closely with Product and Design to turn requirements into scalable, well-documented technical solutions.
Own the reliability, security, performance, and operational health of production systems.
Have strong DevOps ownership, including CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, containers, observability, deployment, and incident response.
Use AI effectively in day-to-day engineering to improve productivity, code quality, testing, debugging, documentation, and problem-solving.
Proactively identify and solve technical and product problems without waiting for them to be assigned.
Build a culture of craftsmanship, accountability, autonomy, and continuous improvement.
Develop engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, mentoring, and clear career growth.
We're Looking For
7–8+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years in an Engineering Manager or technical leadership role.
Fintech, banking, or payments experience is strongly preferred, but not mandatory.
Strong hands-on experience with Go and/or Java, with a willingness to work increasingly with Java.
Strong understanding of SQL databases, AWS, microservices, and distributed systems.
Strong command of DevOps and production engineering practices.
Experience with modern software development and code review practices using tools such as GitHub/GitLab.
Strong understanding of security, reliability, testing, and operational best practices.
Comfortable using AI tools as part of everyday engineering work and able to identify where AI can create a meaningful advantage.
Highly self-driven and comfortable with ambiguity — you create clarity rather than wait for it.
Strong ownership mindset: you think beyond your assigned scope and take responsibility for the technology as a whole.
Excellent communication skills, particularly when working with distributed teams.
The Mindset We're Looking For
Don’t just manage the work. Own the technology.
We want someone who sees a problem and takes it from “this should be better” → “here’s how we fix it” → “I’ll make it happen.”
You should enjoy the full engineering lifecycle — architecting, coding, reviewing, deploying, debugging, operating, and improving systems.
