Data Platform Engineer

Position Summary

The Data Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and operating the cloud platform that enables secure, scalable, and reliable data solutions across the enterprise. This role focuses on AWS platform engineering, infrastructure automation, cloud services, and operational excellence to support analytics, data science, engineering, and personalization teams.

Working within a regulated financial services environment, this engineer establishes secure cloud foundations, enables self-service capabilities, automates infrastructure, and ensures platform reliability while partnering with engineering teams to accelerate delivery of data products and services.

Rather than building one-off solutions, this role creates reusable platform capabilities that simplify development, improve governance, and increase the speed at which teams can deliver value.

Essential Functions

AWS Platform Engineering

• Design, build, and manage AWS infrastructure supporting our enterprise data platform.
• Provision and administer AWS accounts, VPCs, security boundaries, and shared platform services.
• Build reusable Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Establish reusable cloud landing zones, deployment standards, and reference architectures.
• Manage and optimize core AWS services such as Lambda, S3, EventBridge, API Gateway, ECS/ECR, DynamoDB, Step Functions, CloudWatch, Secrets Manager, IAM, and VPC.

Platform Automation & DevOps

• Play a role in design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments.
• Assist with implementing observability through centralized logging, monitoring, dashboards, and alerting.
• Improve platform reliability, resiliency, scalability, and deployment efficiency.
• Support disaster recovery, backup strategies, and high availability.

Cloud Security & Governance

• Implement AWS security best practices across the account environment.
• Implement least-privilege IAM policies, roles, and access controls.
• Manage secrets, encryption, networking, compliance, and audit controls.
• Partner with Security, Risk, and Compliance teams to meet regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years designing, implementing, and supporting AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Experience administering AWS accounts, IAM, networking, VPCs, and security controls.
• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
• Experience with Lambda and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience using Git in collaborative engineering environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS Organizations, Control Tower, and IAM Identity Center (AWS SSO).

Experience supporting Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, or enterprise data platforms.

• AWS Certification are a plus
• Experience in financial services or another regulated industry.
