Lead the product design vision and strategy for a specific collective, managing direct reports and coaching them in UI and research practices. Drive the design roadmap in collaboration with Product and Engineering while ensuring high-quality delivery and team health.
About the Role:
The Fetch Product Design team is responsible for the entirety of design within the Fetch app from user experience design to creative direction and production. Our goal is to deliver a fun experience that our shoppers (and partners) love and can’t live without.
Fetch is looking for experienced Directors to join our Product Design team. You will be working within a focused, balanced team; it is your responsibility to lead efforts that measurably improve people’s lives. You will lead our team’s culture through mentorship and thought leadership. You will help Fetch level up by infusing user-centered practices into your Collective and across the organization.
Product designers at Fetch must be…
- Risk-takers. You’ve got ample room to fail and no time to play it safe.
- Endlessly curious. You never hesitate to ask “why” and tirelessly seek out innovative solutions.
- Expert collaborators. You are equally comfortable working side-by-side with executive stakeholders, teammates, and non-technical colleagues as you are with your fellow designers.
- UI craftspeople. A background in visual design is not required but a well-practiced eye for detail & aesthetics absolutely is. You (and your team’s) shipped, mobile app work needs to knock our socks off.
- Radically scrappy. You thrive in ambiguity and won’t hesitate to get exactly what you need to keep moving ahead. You can get stuff done!
- Team-players. Our secret sauce is our team dynamic; we don’t have time for egos.
This is a full-time role that can be held from one of our US offices or remotely in the United States.
By month 3 you will be…
- Managing 2+ direct reports inside your Collective (a group of multi-disciplinary teams focused on the same problem space) and coach them in:
- Design strategy and continuous discovery
- World-class UI design
- Strategic, user-centered research & usability testing
- Acquainted with the existing roadmap and vision
- Learning our design process by contributing as an individual designer
- Owning the team’s design roadmap; aligning to product area goals and beginning to shape near-term priorities
By month 6 you will be…
- Driving the design vision and strategy of your collective in collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Research
- Contributing to a long-term vision (6+ months) for your collective
- Resolving team-level tradeoffs across scope, speed, and quality—anticipating and mitigating delivery risks before they become problems
- Holding team members accountable for delivery quality—addressing performance gaps early and directly
- Identifying and addressing team health risks—burnout, unclear ownership, and misalignment—before they compound
- Maintaining trust under delivery pressure by surfacing and resolving disagreements early and directly
By year 1 you will be…
- Maintaining a high-functioning design practice for your Collective
- Influencing cross-functional partners on scope, priorities, and tradeoffs—pushing back clearly when work is misaligned
- Proactively managing dependencies and sequencing—ensuring stakeholders understand priorities, tradeoffs, and timelines
- Leading small cross-team efforts with defined scope and clear ownership
- Improving team-level processes—clearer requirements, better prioritization, stronger communication
- Coaching designers across many collectives
We’re looking for people who have:
- Player-coach leadership experience
- 3+ years of people management experience for Product Design team(s) or organization(s)
- Must have been for a consumer product at some point
- 8+ years of relevant experience, consumer, mobile app design experience required
- Exceptional eye for detail
- Experience with Figma
- Experience coaching designers on building research into their practice

- Bonus if you have experience working with Rive
- Technical acumen and experience designing for complex problems and tools
- Ability to self-direct and lean on their prioritization methods to get their work done in a fast-paced, startup environment
