AI Summary

Lead the Solutions and Technical Implementation function to translate client business goals into scalable Shopify solutions. Oversee technical discovery, architecture governance, and cross-functional coordination between engineering and client services.

1r Agency is a rapidly growing e-commerce design, strategy, and technology firm with a portfolio of notable fashion, beauty, and lifestyle clients. Together, we work to transform digital shopping experiences and establish a solid online brand identity for our clients.

We are seeking a Director of Technical Solutions to lead and mature our Solutions & Technical Implementation function. This role will sit at the intersection of technical strategy, solution architecture, Shopify implementation, analytics, SEO, client-facing technical guidance, and cross-functional delivery process.

The Director of Technical Solutions will be responsible for turning client business goals into scalable, practical, and high-quality Shopify solutions. This person will own technical discovery, solution architecture governance, requirements standards, QA standards, scoping standards, implementation readiness, and cross-functional coordination across client engagements.

The ideal candidate has deep Shopify / Shopify Plus experience, a strong technical foundation, agency or client-services experience, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary technical resources. This person does not need to code daily, but must be technically credible enough to review architecture, validate estimates, identify risks, challenge assumptions, and partner effectively with Engineering. You will report to the VP of Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Solutions & Technical Implementation function within the Technology department, including solutions architecture, business analysis, analytics, SEO, and technical implementation resources.

  • Manage, mentor, and develop team members across technical, analytical, SEO, and implementation-oriented roles.

  • Run and oversee technical discovery for Shopify, Shopify Plus, Klaviyo, third-party integrations, analytics, SEO, data, and site optimization work.

  • Translate client business goals into scalable technical solutions, solution blueprints, requirements, and implementation plans.

  • Review and approve solution designs, technical approaches, integrations, and estimates before work moves into development.

  • Partner with Engineering leadership and Tech Leads to validate feasibility, identify risks, and align on technical approach.

  • Provide senior-level Shopify / Shopify Plus guidance across themes, APIs, apps, checkout extensibility, B2B, Markets, and integration patterns.

  • Ensure analytics, SEO, and commerce performance considerations are incorporated into technical planning, QA, launch readiness, and post-launch optimization.

  • Serve as a senior technical partner in client conversations, discovery sessions, workshops, and executive-level presentations.

  • Support pre-sales and organic growth opportunities by contributing to technical audits, scoping, estimates, proposal language, and risk assessment.

  • Establish reusable standards, templates, and governance for discovery, solution blueprints, requirements, estimates, QA, and launch readiness.

  • Create clearer handoffs between Program Management, Project Management, Solutions, Engineering, SEO, Analytics, and QA.

  • Improve accountability, consistency, and technical readiness across the Technology department without overcomplicating delivery.

Qualifications

  • 6–10 years of total experience in ecommerce technology, digital agency, Shopify agency, technology consulting, or a related client-services environment.

  • 5+ years of hands-on or leadership experience with Shopify / Shopify Plus.

  • Prior background as a developer, technical lead, implementation lead, solutions architect, implementation architect, or similar technical role.

  • Experience managing at least 3 cross-functional team members across technical, analytical, SEO, implementation, or business analysis functions.

  • Strong understanding of Shopify architecture, including themes, Hydrogen / Storefront API, Admin API, apps, checkout extensibility, B2B, and Markets.

  • Experience evaluating integration patterns across ERP, WMS, PIM, OMS, CRM, CDP, analytics, and other ecommerce systems.

  • Strong understanding of GA4, SEO, analytics, commerce operations, and ecommerce performance metrics.

  • Familiarity with metrics such as CVR, AOV, LTV, CAC, MER, ROAS, bounce rate, site speed, engagement, and funnel performance.

  • Experience running discovery, technical workshops, client presentations, and executive-level technical conversations.

  • Experience with technical discovery, scoping, estimation, requirements documentation, QA, and launch readiness.

  • Strong client-facing communication skills and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs in business language.

  • Ability to review architecture and estimates, while not being expected to code daily.

  • Ability to operate in a fast-moving agency environment with multiple clients, competing priorities, and evolving scopes.

  • Strong collaboration skills across Engineering, Program Management, Project Management, Client Services, Design, Strategy, Lifecycle, Growth, SEO, and Analytics teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting enterprise or high-growth Shopify Plus clients.

  • Experience with Klaviyo technical implementations, migrations, integrations, or lifecycle technology requirements.

  • Experience working across UX, CRO, SEO, analytics, and engineering teams.
