INTRODUCTION TO ROLE
The Director of Property Accounting is an important role at Blue Water, overseeing the core functions of Centralized Property Accounting to help Blue Water’s leadership gain financial visibility and insights into the business. This also includes preparing accurate and timely financial reports, ensuring appropriate controls are in place to safeguard assets, and utilizing efficient and effective processes at the properties. This role supports the organization's strategic vision through sound fiscal management. Key competencies: Financial Management, Performance Management, Ethical Conduct, thoroughness. - Extensive knowledge of financial statement preparation, accounts payable, payroll, cash management, and income audit.
- Provides structured coaching, clear performance feedback, and practical development support to direct and indirect reports to build accountability, capability, and consistency.
- Strong knowledge of USALI
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Ability to manage large teams while multi-tasking projects and competing deadlines.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
- Deliver accurate, timely, and decision-ready property financial reporting that meets the needs of owners, investors, and senior leadership.
- Evaluate, strengthen, and standardize accounting procedures and internal controls to improve productivity, reduce error rates, and protect company assets.
- Lead consistent performance management across the property accounting function, setting clear expectations and holding team members accountable to quality and compliance standards.
- Drive process improvements and support cross-functional and ad hoc initiatives that enhance scalability and enable Blue Water's continued growth.
Implement, monitor, and refine accounting controls, processes, and procedures to ensure operational consistency and financial integrity across properties.
- Lead the effective use and continuous improvement of Blue Water's financial systems, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency, visibility, and accuracy.
- Partner on major accounting technology upgrades, system implementations, and transitions to ensure strong adoption, continuity, and control.
Develop and mentor team members through structured coaching and training, building a culture of accountability, technical discipline, and high performance.
- Deliver timely, decisive decisions within established authority, balancing speed, judgment, risk, and adherence to company policies and quality standards.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
The Director of Property Accounting reports to the VP of Finance and Accounting.
WHAT YOU BRING
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field. Master’s Degree and/or CPA preferred.
- 6-10 years of relevant experience, including experience in finance/accounting in a corporate environment.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI)
- Experience leading and developing a team.
- Experience leading complex workstreams.
- Excellent proficiency in accounting and corporate finance concepts.
- Consistent success and career progression.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications, including advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with ProfitSword or similar Hospitality Intelligence Software.
- Experience with Sage Intacct, Blackline, or similar Accounting Software.
