Reporting Relationships: 
 The Director of Construction reports to the Vice President, Engineering and Construction. Internal and third-party construction and site managers report to the Director of Construction.

 Accountabilities and Key Functions

The Director of Construction is responsible for the safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery of Potentia’s utility-scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects — from notice to proceed through mechanical completion, commissioning, and handover to Operations. The role owns construction execution, contractor performance, site safety, and cost and schedule control across a multi-project portfolio.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Construction Leadership & Project Delivery

  • Lead construction execution for a portfolio of utility-scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects, from notice to proceed through commissioning and handover to Operations.
  • Develop and own project execution plans, construction schedules, and site logistics in coordination with the development, engineering, PMO and procurement teams.
  • Establish and enforce site quality assurance, schedule and commissioning standards across all active sites.
  • Drive timely resolution of field issues, RFIs, and design changes to keep projects on schedule.
  • Drive consistency in construction standards, documentation, and reporting across the portfolio.

Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Champion Potentia’s corporate safety culture and ensure all site activities comply with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations and Potentia standards.
  • Oversee contractor safety programs, site audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure environmental permits, conditions, and mitigation measures are met throughout construction.

Contractor, Contract & Procurement Management

  • Manage contractors and equipment suppliers to ensure delivery against scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Support the negotiation and administration of construction and supply contracts, including change orders, claims, and milestone payments.
  • Review and approve contractor drawdown certifications and progress claims in coordination with project management, project controls and finance.

Budget, Schedule & Cost Control

  • Own construction budgets, forecasts, and contingency management across the portfolio.
  • Monitor cost and schedule performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide accurate progress reporting and cash-flow inputs to project controls, finance, and lenders.

Stakeholder Engagement & Team Leadership

  • Build, lead, and mentor a team of construction and site managers, setting clear objectives and performance expectations.
  • Report construction status, risks, and key decisions to executive leadership and project stakeholders.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field; equivalent site-based experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of progressive construction management experience, with utility-scale renewable energy (solar, wind, and/or battery storage) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record delivering multiple concurrent projects on schedule and on budget through commissioning.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction contracting, project controls, and construction health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to lead distributed site teams.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across North America.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with construction scheduling and project-management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
  • Experience with cost-control and ERP systems (NetSuite or similar) and document-management platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Professional certification (PMP, P.Eng., Gold Seal, or equivalent) is considered an asset.

COMPENSATION

  • Base salary range: $170,000 to $200,000 CAD, commensurate with experience.
  • Target annual bonus: 20% of base salary.
  • Compensation will vary depending on experience and qualifications.
