The Compliance Director is responsible for leading and supporting compliance activities for Attain Finance’s Canadian consumer loan subsidiary, including new loan product development, regulatory complaint management, compliance investigations, examination and inquiry responses, and policy oversight. This role supports compliance with applicable Canadian federal and provincial financial services requirements, including anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing obligations, consumer lending, consumer protection requirements, and internal risk management expectations.

 

This position consults with varying levels of management and is responsible for cultivating and maintaining effective relationships with regulators, auditors, internal business partners, and internal stakeholders. The Compliance Director helps drive a strong culture of compliance, demonstrates sound judgment and integrity, and supports the protection of customers, the organization, and the broader interests of the Canadian financial services environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Legal and Compliance requirements related to new loan product development
  • Manage regulatory affairs activities, including maintaining effective working relationships with Canadian regulators, auditors, examiners, and other applicable oversight bodies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable Canadian federal and provincial financial services laws, regulations, and guidance, including requirements issued by FINTRAC, OSFI, provincial consumer protection authorities, privacy regulators, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain a regulatory change library and assess the impact of new or revised requirements on company policies, procedures, systems, operations, disclosures, reporting, and recordkeeping obligations.
  • Investigate, manage, track, and report on regulatory examinations, inquiries, audits, complaints, and compliance exceptions, providing timely responses and guidance to business leaders.
  • Partner with business unit leaders to remediate regulatory findings and systemic issues through policy updates, procedure enhancements, training, system changes, and other corrective actions.
  • Support AML/ATF compliance program activities, including risk assessments, policies and procedures, training, monitoring, recordkeeping, reporting obligations, and periodic effectiveness reviews, as applicable.
  • Support privacy compliance activities, including the protection of personal information, privacy incident escalation, records management, and alignment with applicable federal and provincial privacy requirements.
  • Provide regular reporting to the CCO regarding complaints, regulatory changes, examination status, remediation activities, emerging trends, and compliance program effectiveness.
  • Assist with the implementation, monitoring, and communication of compliance-related policies, procedures, controls, and training to support adherence to Canadian federal and provincial requirements.
  • Organize or support compliance training sessions and maintain updated training materials for business unit compliance contacts and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Risk, Operations, Information Security, Privacy, Finance, and business stakeholders on regulatory, security, fraud, privacy, and compliance updates.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Canadian consumer loan compliance requirements, including regulatory complaint handling, consumer protection, AML/ATF, privacy, and risk management practices.
  • Experience interpreting regulatory requirements and translating them into practical policies, procedures, controls, training, and business guidance.
  • Detail-oriented and analytical, with sound judgment, independent decision-making ability, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced, changing, and highly regulated environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex regulatory, audit, and analytical information clearly to all audience levels.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate successfully with business partners, regulators, auditors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage interruptions, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and follow through on remediation, reporting, and regulatory commitments.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a corporate compliance role focused on consumer lending.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in AML Compliance. CAMS certification preferred.

Base Salary:  $140,000-$190,000 CAD

 

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position based on the provincial average. The actual base salary offered for this full-time position will be determined by various factors, including but not limited to, location, skills, knowledge, competencies, and experience.

All full-time employees are eligible for benefits effective on their first day of employment, including paid time off, health benefits, basic life insurance, disability coverage, and optional voluntary life benefits.
