Who You’ll Work With

The Development team builds and sustains relationships with individuals, foundations, and institutions that provide resources for Echoing Green’s work. You will work closely with Development colleagues and partner with Finance, Communications, Programs, and organizational leaders to keep information accurate, coordinate fundraising activity, and support consistent relationships with funders.

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Development Associate is an important contributor to the team’s day-to-day operations. The role manages donor data, processes gifts, conducts prospect research, prepares information for meetings and outreach, and helps improve the systems and practices that support fundraising.

Previous fundraising experience is not required. We welcome candidates who have built relevant skills through operations, administration, research, data management, finance, customer or client support, project coordination, community-based work, or other settings.

What You'll Do

Donor Data & Systems

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records in Salesforce, including donor information, interactions, pledges, gifts, and next steps.
  • Review data for accuracy and consistency, correct errors when appropriate, and flag issues that require additional guidance or a system-level fix.
  • Generate donor lists, reports, and other information that Development colleagues and organizational leaders can use to plan and carry out fundraising work.

Gift Processing & Acknowledgment

  • Process incoming gifts accurately and on time, partnering with Finance to confirm coding, allocation, and reconciliation.
  • Prepare and personalize gift acknowledgment letters and tax receipts, using clear and consistent records to support timely donor stewardship.
  • Maintain documentation that makes gift decisions, restrictions, and follow-up steps easy for the appropriate colleagues to understand and use.

Prospect Research & Briefings

  • Conduct respectful, relevant research on individuals, foundations, and companies using appropriate public sources to help identify prospective funders and prepare for engagement.
  • Gather and summarize information for donor and meeting briefings, separating verified information from assumptions and highlighting what is most useful for the audience.
  • Maintain prospect and portfolio information, including relationship history, current status, and agreed next steps.

Development Operations & Coordination

  • Coordinate Development tasks and information across team members and partner teams so that deadlines, responsibilities, and next steps are clear.
  • Contribute to donor engagement and stewardship activities, including events, communications, and follow-up.
  • Support the annual report and other cross-functional projects that require accurate Development data, research, or coordination.
  • Identify practical ways to improve recurring processes, tools, and documentation, and share ideas with the team.

Requirements

What You'll Bring

  • Relevant experience: Experience in operations, administration, research, data management, fundraising, project coordination, or another area where you organized information, followed processes, and supported shared work.
  • Detail orientation: You review your work for accuracy, notice inconsistencies, and correct mistakes. You are comfortable asking questions when information is incomplete or unclear.
  • Focus and follow-through: You organize your work, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and communicate early when a timeline or priority needs to change.
  • Communication: You share information clearly and respectfully, adjust the level of detail for different audiences, and summarize complex information in a way that is easy to use.
  • Collaboration: You share information, seek input, and coordinate with others so that work does not depend on one person holding all of the context.
  • Equity-mindedness: You are willing to examine assumptions, consider how identity, access, and power can shape experiences and decisions, and apply that awareness to your day-to-day work.
  • Judgment and discretion: You handle confidential and sensitive information with care and understand when to ask for guidance before acting.
  • Tools: You are comfortable working with spreadsheets, databases, and systems used to organize information. Experience with Excel, Salesforce, or another CRM or database is helpful but not required.
  • Mission connection: You are interested in Echoing Green’s mission and in supporting the people and communities at the center of our work.
