Role Overview
The DTP Specialist is responsible for formatting, layout adaptation, and quality assurance of multilingual documents to ensure they meet linguistic, visual, and technical standards. The role supports localization workflows by preparing files for translation and ensuring accurate post-localization formatting across multiple languages and formats.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform desktop publishing (DTP) tasks for multilingual content across various formats (e.g., InDesign, Illustrator, PDF, Word, PowerPoint)
- Adjust layouts to accommodate text expansion/contraction in different languages
- Ensure consistency in formatting, typography, spacing, and alignment across localized versions
- Handle right-to-left (RTL) and complex scripts formatting
- Prepare source files for localization (file extraction, cleanup, font checks, etc.)
- Conduct post-localization formatting and visual QA
- Troubleshoot and fix formatting issues, missing fonts, text overflow, encoding problems, etc.
- Collaborate with localization project managers, linguists, and QA teams
- Maintain and follow DTP guidelines, templates, and best practices
- Support automation initiatives (scripts, batch processing) where applicable
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills

- Adobe InDesign
- Adobe Illustrator

- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Experience with PDF editing tools (e.g., Acrobat Pro)
- Familiarity with localization tools (e.g., Trados, MemoQ, or similar) is a plus
- Understanding file formats: IDML, INDD, AI, PSD, PDF, XML, HTML
- Knowledge of typography, fonts, and encoding (Unicode, UTF-8)
- Experience with RTL languages (especially Arabic) is highly preferred
DTP & Localization Knowledge
- Strong understanding of multilingual layout challenges
- Experience handling complex scripts (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.)
- Awareness of text expansion, line breaking, and font substitution issues
- Knowledge of print vs digital formatting requirements

Experience & Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of experience in DTP, localization, or graphic production
- Degree or certification in Graphic Design, Multimedia, or related field is preferred
- Experience working in a localization or translation environment is a strong advantage
Nice-to-Have (Localization Engineering)
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of localization engineering workflows (file preparation, parsing, and post-processing)
- Experience handling structured file formats such as XML, HTML, JSON, YAML, and XLIFF
- Familiarity with regex for search, cleanup, and text manipulation tasks
- Exposure to scripting/automation (e.g., JavaScript for Adobe, Python, or VBA) to streamline DTP and localization tasks
- Experience with CAT tool file handling and troubleshooting (e.g., filter configurations, tag issues)
- Understanding of encoding standards (UTF-8, Unicode) and character-related issues in multilingual content
- Familiarity with QA and validation tools (e.g., Verifika, Xbench, or similar)
- Experience working with localization pipelines, including file handoff between engineering, translation, and DTP stages
- Ability to troubleshoot file import/export issues across tools and formats
- Awareness of automation and scalability opportunities within localization workflows (batch processing, scripting, etc.)
