You will embed within engineering teams to provide hands-on coaching, pairing, and facilitation to improve delivery practices and organizational capability. Additionally, you will guide engineering managers in sustaining these new practices and contribute to the development of Uplevel's coaching methodology.
Uplevel is the operating system for engineering transformation. In an era when AI fundamentally shifts software delivery, we help leaders figure out how to evolve — and build the technical and organizational capability to act on it. Our platform combines quantitative engineering data with expert technical guidance and a battle-tested delivery framework to help enterprise engineering organizations pinpoint bottlenecks, solve the root causes, implement modern architecture and toolchains, and sustain momentum.
Directional alignment and focus is the first step towards transformation, but transformation becomes real at the team level.
In this role, you’ll embed inside engineering teams of 300-2000 people across a range of industries during Uplevel engagements, which run approximately 12 weeks. You’ll go in with platform data, assessment findings, and Uplevel’s delivery framework and work alongside engineers and their managers. Providing coaching, pairing, and facilitation, you’ll help teams build organizational capability through best practices. An Uplevel consultant will join for workshops and key sessions, but the day-to-day team relationship is yours to build and hold.
Remote-first is workable, but in-person coaching for at least a portion of the engagement accelerates practice change significantly. The best outcomes happen when you can sit with a team.
Pair with engineers; code with them, use AI with them, and aid them in upleveling their skills and confidence
Embed with engineering teams and model better ways of working through pairing, mobbing, retros, and working sessions
Help teams improve flow: reducing WIP, shortening cycle times, building toward continuous delivery as a lived practice
Provide concrete technical recommendations and coach teams on modern engineering practices, primarily through pairing
Identify what’s actually slowing a team down and address root causes
Guide teams in integrating AI-assisted workflows (e.g., Copilot, AI-driven test generation, intelligent review tools) directly into their daily development lifecycle, making AI an active multiplier for code quality and throughput
Coach engineering managers alongside their teams — helping them understand what’s changing, why it matters, and how to lead in a way that reinforces rather than undermines the work
Build the manager’s ability to sustain new practices after the engagement ends
Help managers connect team-level practices to the outcomes their executives care about
Contribute to building out Uplevel’s practitioner coaching methodology
Surface what you’re seeing at the team level — patterns, blockers, cultural dynamics — so the full engagement picture stays accurate
Coordinate with the Method consultant around workshops and exec-facing sessions so the team-level and org-level work reinforce each other
Experience as a practitioner-coach embedded inside engineering teams (ex-Thoughtworks, Equal Experts, Industrial Logic, Pivotal, or equivalent environments) where coaching happened through doing, not advising
Deep fluency and experience in continuous delivery as a practice: trunk-based development, TDD, incremental delivery, fast feedback loops.
Hands-on experience with AI-forward development workflows and developer tooling, including practically applying AI code assistants, prompt engineering for developers, and automated review systems
Experience working inside large, complex, and established organizations with enterprise constraints
Other coaching or consulting experience is a plus
Deep personal experience using and experimenting with agentic workflows
Ability to diagnose technical and organizational symptoms and causes, and sequence the work in an order that makes change possible
Patience and conviction in the right proportion: you meet teams where they are, and you move them forward
Clear, direct communication with engineers and managers alike — you can give hard feedback without losing the relationship
Strong facilitation experience and skill
Comfort operating without a complete playbook — you apply judgment, and you help build what’s missing
You’re not running workshops and leaving. You’re embedded with teams doing actual delivery work, and the change you create is visible — in how the team works, how the manager leads, and what the data shows after you’re gone. If you’ve spent time in environments where coaching felt performative, this is the antidote.
Most coaching work lives and dies on anecdote. Uplevel’s platform captures quantitative and qualitative data throughout an engagement, which means you can actually see what’s changing — in team behavior, delivery patterns, and health signals. For a practitioner who has done good work with no way to show it, that’s a meaningful difference.
You’re not doing the same engagement forever. Each team is a different diagnostic puzzle — different culture, different constraints, different starting point. The framework is consistent; the application is never the same twice.
During an engagement, the team is working differently — not because they were told to, but because someone sat with them and showed them a better way. The manager understands what’s changing and why, and is actively reinforcing it.
After an engagement, the practices hold. The team doesn’t need you to maintain what you built together. The manager has the language and the confidence to keep it moving. The data reflects it.
Over time, you’ve made yourself unnecessary at each account — and Uplevel’s coaching methodology is sharper because of what you surfaced from the field.
