We are seeking a Data Scientist I who will support the management of complex databases as well as develop, maintain, and document code. The Data Scientist will collect and extract data using a variety of data extraction tools and carry out data management, visualization, and analysis tasks.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the development of dashboards, calculations, and reports which may require programming.
  • Support the development and tuning of machine learning models, which may require programming.
  • Support the development of infrastructure for cleaning and processing data and running experiments to evaluate system performance.
  • Mine various data resources for development of key metrics, performance indicators, and general business intelligence useful for planning and service design.
  • Perform error analysis and suggest and implement improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


In Addition to the Duties Listed Above

  • The B Lab is seeking a Data Scientist I to support to a five-year, Baltimore-based, adolescent-focused project designed to support youth affected by household and neighborhood challenges. The B Lab is a community-based research team led by Dr. Terri Powell and housed in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. We are dedicated to conducting community-engaged research to support the healthy development of youth in Baltimore and beyond. We bring together faculty and students, community partners, local organizations, and young people to achieve these goals. The Data Scientist I will also,
  • Research best practices and state-of-the-art methodologies that can be applied in the assigned area.
  • Clean, assess quality and bias, explore, analyze, and visualize data.
  • Use subject matter expertise to coach data best practices.
  • Lead and contribute to research dissemination efforts (e.g., professional conferences and peer-reviewed manuscripts)


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Four years of relevant quantitative research and analytics experience, with at least two of those years including complex programming experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in public health or related field
  • Experience with ArcGIS and conducting longitudinal data analyses
