About the Role

The Data Platform Engineer I provides entry-level support for our critical data platform infrastructure, working under the guidance of senior engineers. The role is focused on assisting with the configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of database and event streaming systems, ensuring smooth platform operations, and actively contributing to process documentation and team initiatives.    

Requirements

You Will:

Support Platform Operations 

  • Assist in the configuration and maintenance of SQL Server and Kafka systems under the guidance of senior engineers. 
  • Execute operational checklists to support backup, disaster recovery, and patching efforts. 
  • Support basic system monitoring and alerting activities to ensure platform reliability. 

Contribute to Documentation and Process Improvements 

  • Help maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of operational processes and system changes. 
  • Participate in team discussions focused on continuous improvement and platform efficiency. 

Collaborate Across Teams 

  • Work closely with platform team members and key stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and support day-to-day operations. 
  • Communicate effectively within the team and escalate concerns when appropriate. 

Grow Through Mentorship and Learning 

  • Seek out opportunities to learn from senior team members and contribute to a collaborative team environment. 
  • Demonstrate initiative, curiosity, and adaptability in a fast-paced technical environment. 

Talent Management

  • Collaborate with the Talent team to actively engage in the hiring and recruitment process, including but not limited to participating in interviews.
  • Leverage industry networks and expertise to identify and attract top talent that aligns with the company's objectives and values.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members within your department and across diverse functions.
  • Play an integral role in shaping and reinforcing the overall company culture, promoting values that enhance teamwork, collaboration, and employee engagement.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Must be available for on-call duty, providing support outside of regular working hours as needed to ensure the timely resolution of critical issues. 
  • Although we work in a remote-first environment, all roles require in-person attendance at our headquarters approximately 2 times per year (in addition to other travel requirements for this specific role, if applicable). These visits are essential for team collaboration, strategic planning, and fostering deeper connections across the organization. Travel arrangements will be supported to ensure a seamless experience. 
  • Must reside in the Eastern or Central time zone. Must work eastern hours

You Have

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required
  • 1 year of experience with SQL Server (internships and personal projects welcome). 

Certifications 

  • AZ-900 and AI-901 must be obtained within 180 days or being hired if not already certified

Knowledge 

  • Basic understanding of core database concepts, security best practices, and system administration. 
  • Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker) and distributed systems is a plus. 

Skills 

  • Eagerness to learn and take initiative. 
  • Strong analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication.

Benefits

What We Offer

Softheon offers every full-time employee a comprehensive compensation and benefits package including: 

·       For this position we offer a base pay of $80,000-$95,000, plus equity (when applicable), variable/incentive compensation, and benefits. Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as candidate location, qualifications, skill level, and competencies.

·       Work from your home company with a one-time home office stipend

·       Comprehensive benefits package that includes health, vision and dental coverage for you, your spouse and dependents

·       Additional benefits, including a monthly wellness stipend and internet stipend, 401K w/ a match; immediately vested, employee assistance program, disability/life insurance, and parental leave

·       15 days to discretionary PTO based on YOS

·       9 additional paid holidays
