About the Role

Texas Sports Academy is a K-12 school designed for serious student-athletes who want both elite academics and high-level athletic development. Students learn twice as fast as traditional schools in just 2 hours a day, using the same 2-Hour Learning model as Alpha School. That frees up their entire afternoon for serious training, where they work alongside former pro and D1 athletes coaching them at the highest standard.

We are hiring D1 Hockey Youth Mentors to work with multiple student-athletes through one-on-one video sessions, splitting your time evenly between academic guidance and hockey mentorship. You will support your students through their academic hours, hold them accountable for focus and effort, and use your Division I hockey experience to guide how they approach training, competition, and life as a student-athlete.

What You'll Do

• Guide Your Students Through Their Academic Day: Meet with your students one-on-one over video during their academic hours, keep them focused and on task, and help them maintain progress through their learning.
• Mentor Young Hockey Players: Use your Division I hockey background to guide students on game preparation, handling mistakes, training habits, teamwork, and the college hockey recruiting process. Help them balance academic responsibilities with practices, games, tournaments, and travel.
• Build Strong Mentoring Relationships: Be a consistent, trusted adult each student can turn to for guidance, accountability, and honest feedback across both school and hockey.
• Support Their Learning: Help your students navigate the AI-powered learning platform, work through challenging material, and build study and time-management habits they can maintain throughout the hockey season.
• Reinforce Standards: Set clear expectations for effort, focus, sportsmanship, and how students respond to feedback. Address concerns directly and recognize progress in both academics and hockey.
• Communicate With Parents and Staff: Give parents and the academy clear updates on each student's academic progress, approach to hockey, and areas where they need additional support.

Requirements

• Division I Hockey Background: You competed in NCAA Division I ice hockey and can use that experience to mentor young players. You understand the demands of balancing academics, training, competition, and travel.
• Experience Working With Kids: You have worked with young people in a role where you were responsible for their focus, growth, or development. Coaching, tutoring, mentoring, camp counseling, teaching, or similar hands-on work.
• Judgment With Young Athletes: You know how to earn a student's trust, set clear expectations, give direct feedback, and recognize when they need a different approach or additional support.
• Strong Communication: You are clear and consistent on video, comfortable leading one-on-one sessions, and able to give parents and staff useful written updates.
• Reliability and Organization: You show up on time, follow through, and keep track of what each of your students needs next.
• AI-First Approach: You are comfortable using AI tools and AI-powered learning platforms to support your work. You check their outputs and use your own judgment when helping students.
• Location and Setup: Remote (U.S.). Reliable internet and a quiet space for video sessions. U.S. work authorization required.

Bonus Points

• Youth Hockey Coaching: You have coached youth hockey players, worked at hockey camps, or mentored athletes in a structured hockey program.
• College Hockey Recruiting Experience: You have helped players and families understand recruiting, communicate with college coaches, or prepare for the transition to college hockey.
• Teaching or Tutoring Background: You have taught, tutored, or led a classroom before.
• Remote Student Support: You have supported students through video sessions, learning platforms, and messaging tools.

Benefits

Pay: $25/hour
