Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Criminal Law Paralegal with 1+ years of experience supporting criminal law matters within the Australian legal system. The ideal candidate will have experience assisting lawyers with case preparation, legal research, drafting legal documents, and managing case files.
This role is ideal for a proactive legal professional who is organized, possesses strong research and communication skills, and is comfortable working remotely while supporting Australian legal teams on a range of criminal law matters.
Responsibilities
- Assist lawyers with the preparation and management of criminal law matters.
- Conduct legal research on Australian legislation, case law, and court procedures.
- Draft legal correspondence, court forms, chronologies, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Organize, maintain, and update electronic case files and legal records.
- Review evidence and assist in preparing case summaries and hearing materials.
- Liaise with clients, courts, counsel, experts, and other stakeholders as directed.
- Monitor key dates, court deadlines, and filing requirements.
- Perform administrative and legal support tasks to ensure the efficient management of matters.
- Work collaboratively with remote legal teams while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Diploma, Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent qualification in Law, Legal Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 years of experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant, preferably in criminal law.
- Experience supporting Australian criminal law matters or Australian legal practitioners is highly desirable.
- Strong legal research and document drafting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using legal practice management software.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
