Criminal Defense Lawyer – Australian Experience

Job Description

We are seeking a Criminal Defense Lawyer with 4+ years of post-qualification experience in criminal law and experience working with matters under the Australian legal system. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in criminal defense, strong legal research and drafting skills, and the ability to support Australian law firms in handling a variety of criminal matters.

This role is suited for a lawyer who is detail-oriented, commercially aware, and comfortable working remotely with international teams.

Responsibilities

- Assist in managing criminal law matters from initial instructions through to resolution.

- Conduct legal research on Australian criminal legislation, case law, and court procedures.

- Draft and review legal documents, including court documents, legal correspondence, submissions, and advice.

- Support the preparation of matters for hearings, negotiations, and other legal proceedings.

- Review evidence and assist in developing case strategies.

- Liaise with clients, counsel, experts, and other stakeholders as required.

- Keep up to date with developments in Australian criminal law and legal practice.

- Work collaboratively with remote legal teams while managing competing deadlines.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) and admission to practice in a recognized jurisdiction.

- 4+ years of experience practicing criminal law.

- Experience handling criminal law matters within the Australian legal system or supporting Australian legal teams.

- Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills.

- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing multiple priorities.

- Experience using legal research platforms and case management systems is an advantage but not essential.
