The Work That Matters:
Great events are remembered in moments and feelings, and those moments are designed. The way a room reads. The way a brand breathes. The way every detail, from the logo, the stage, the program, the content, the entertainment, the post-event video, feels like one continuous idea instead of twelve disconnected ones.
That’s the work. And we’re hiring the leader who will own it.
The Role at a Glance:
Title: Creative Director, Design
Reports to: VP, Creative & Production
Leads: A team of graphic, experience, and motion designers in a full-service event agency
Partners with: Account Directors, Strategists, Producers, Planners, and New Business
Location: Remote (US)
Compensation: $125,000 – $150,000; commensurate with portfolio and experience
Who We’re Looking For:
A Working Visionary. You lead with ideas and shape with your hands. Big creative thinking is your default; refined execution is your discipline.
A Designer’s Designer. You came up through graphic design. You explore typography, hierarchy, color, composition, and brand systems, because you’ve never lost the craft. Your eye is sharp and your standards are high. You can sketch on a napkin and direct in Adobe.
A Brand Translator for Events. You know an event is a brand expression with a heartbeat. You translate a client’s strategy into spaces people remember, decks people share, and details people post about.
A Collaborative Operator. You can hold five accounts, three Account Directors, and a freelance bench in your head at once. You partner sideways, not down. You make ADs better and producers calmer.
A Strategic Thinker. You listen deeply, lead discovery, shape briefs, and defend a creative choice with reasoning a CMO can carry into their own boardroom.
A Standard-Setter. You raise the bar by example, not ego. You shape process so quality is repeatable.
A Talent Builder. You mentor designers like the craft is sacred and the people more so. Clear feedback. Real growth plans. An environment where designers feel challenged, supported, and proud of the work.
A Confident Storyteller. You present with clarity, conviction, and warmth. Whether it’s a $150K pitch or a $5M program review, you make the client feel the idea before they evaluate it.
A Shaper of What’s Next. Bishop-McCann is in motion: new business, an upcoming rebrand, evolving capabilities. You’re not joining a finished thing, you are helping author the agency’s next chapter.
What You’ll Own:
· Lead design direction for meetings, events, incentives, and brand experiences.
· Guide concept development from blank page to show time.
· Set and uphold design standards across every deliverable that carries the BMC name.
· Review creative work with rigor. Push ideas further.
· Lead, mentor, and grow a team of graphic, experience, and motion designers.
· Build and steward a network of freelance design talent we can scale up and down.
· Create a culture where designers feel inspired and accountable in equal measure.
· Give clear, constructive feedback. Hold real career conversations. Develop talent.
· Partner with Strategy, Production, Planning, Account, and New Business to make ideas executable.
· Translate RFPs into pitch work that wins.
· Present design thinking to senior clients with clarity and conviction.
· Shape the agency-wide creative process so we can scale without losing soul.
· Bring rigor to how briefs are written, how reviews happen, and how design files travel through production.
· Help lead design on the upcoming Bishop-McCann rebrand and redefine how creativity shows up across the agency.
· Push our thinking on how innovation, motion, and emerging tech uplevel the work.
What You Bring:
· 10+ years of creative experience, with deep roots in events, brand experiences, or experiential agencies.
· 5+ years leading creative teams and managing people.
· A graphic design foundation.
· A portfolio that proves concept, craft, and range. Branding, decks, environmental, motion, show us the breadth.
· B2B event experience required. Brand or marketing experience welcome.
· Experience presenting and defending creative work to senior-level clients (Director, VP, CMO).
· Comfort partnering across accounts and Account Directors rather than owning a single P&L.
· Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office suite, and workflow management tools eg: Asana. Figma, motion and 3D awareness is a plus.
· A bias toward making things instead of describing them.
· Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
· Willingness to travel a minimum of 35%
Why Join Us:
· A 29-year-old agency in its most interesting chapter yet, winning new business, raising the ambition of the work, and rebranding from the inside out.
· Leadership that genuinely invests in people. You’ll feel it in week one.
· Small enough that your fingerprints will be on the work. Big enough that the work matters.
· Remote-first, built on trust and accountability.
· Privately owned, entrepreneurial mindset, long horizon.
· Strong systems, disciplined execution, and creative freedom inside them.
· A culture that celebrates great work, real lives, and having fun while doing it.
