AI Summary

The role involves driving the strategic vision for Ethereum in public infrastructure and engaging with global institutions to promote decentralized technology. You will also incubate civic use cases and bridge connections between public sector entities and the Ethereum ecosystem.

About the Ethereum Foundation

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Ethereum and related technologies. Our role is to allocate resources to critical projects, to be a valued voice within the Ethereum ecosystem, and to advocate for Ethereum to the outside world. See the Ethereum Foundation’s website here and mandate here.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Core Team Member for EPIC (Ethereum for Public Infrastructure and Commons) to steer our work with governments, multilateral and multinational institutions, NGOs, and civil society groups. In this role, you will empower decision makers to improve public infrastructure with decentralized technology and build civic tooling that aligns with CROPS (Censorship Resistance, Open Source, Privacy, and Security). This role is ideal for someone who combines strategic vision with driving execution, ready to shape EPIC's work today and naturally step into broader team leadership as the initiative expands. As a key part of the Ethereum Foundation’s leadership strategy, EPIC works closely with the President of the Board to align high-level initiatives.

Core Responsibilities

  • Drive EPIC’s Strategic Vision: Plan and execute initiatives that advance Ethereum as credibly neutral infrastructure for digital public goods and public systems, ensuring all efforts align with Ethereum’s core values and the Ethereum Foundation’s mandate.

  • Engage Global Institutions: Build relationships and initiatives with governments, multilateral organizations, NGOs, and civil society groups while educating decision makers on Ethereum’s capabilities through briefings, high-level architecture advice, and workshops.

  • Incubate Public Systems & Infrastructure Initiatives: Shape and incubate civic use cases - scoping requirements, convening stakeholders, and structuring initiatives so that internal and aligned ecosystem partners can help execute proofs-of-concept and pilots.

  • Bridge Ecosystem Connections: Connect public institutions with aligned domain experts and open-source development teams across the global Ethereum ecosystem.

  • Steward Scope & Principles: Ensure EPIC operates strictly within its mandate - focusing on high-leverage educational and convening roles while avoiding turn-key product development, open-ended tech support, or projects that entrench user capture.

  • Lead Internal & External Contributors: Work independently, with a small team, and/or with other internal and external contributors in a fast-evolving, remote environment with shifting priorities, taking on increasing responsibility for team coordination over time.

About You

  • You care about open, privacy-preserving tech. You advocate for civic tooling that protects individual autonomy, avoids user capture, and runs on open-source code.

  • You connect technical and public sector worlds. You can explain complex decentralized systems to government executives, while keeping developers grounded in real-world public sector requirements.

  • You are a systems thinker. You understand narratives in govtech, digital sovereignty, and digital public infrastructure (DPI) and know how to help institutions navigate risks such as foreign dependency, vendor lock-in, and unauditable systems.

  • You are resourceful and disciplined. You understand the power of CROPS and saying "no" to out-of-scope requests while remaining focused on high-leverage opportunities and considering second-order effects.

  • You are an optimistic, adaptable leader. You navigate slow-moving institutional processes and shifting priorities with patience, clarity, and proactive execution.

Required Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in civic or institutional technology, public infrastructure policy, systems/solutions architecture, open-source strategy, or executive advisory.

  • Proven track record of building and managing relationships with senior public-sector stakeholders.

  • Strong conceptual and product-level understanding of Ethereum, Web3 infrastructure, open-source software principles, and privacy-preserving technologies (e.g., zero-knowledge proofs, decentralized identity).

  • Demonstrated capability to design educational frameworks, high-level system architecture briefings, and pilot programs.

  • Fluency in English.

Please submit your application by September 17, 2026. Interviews will happen after the deadline.
