AI Summary

Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of mission-critical Windows-based servers and ensure the stability of Control Systems (OT/CS) infrastructure. Act as the technical escalation point for the NOC and manage surgical patch execution and STIG implementation.

Simplesense builds, deploys, and sustains the Installation Resilience Platform that enables mission operators to rapidly adapt and respond. The Platform protects critical infrastructure from cyber attack while unlocking previously siloed information to monitor, diagnose, and improve response times to incidents. Our adversaries rapidly adopt the latest technology: we help defense users respond in kind.

Simplesense is a non-traditional defense contractor and prime on the Air Force's Installation Resilience Operations Command and Control (IROC) program, which is now expanding to five additional Air Force, Space Force, and Army installations from the one prototype installation, Tyndall Air Force Base.

Our team combines over 100 years of direct mission experience solving hard problems with 50 years technical expertise deploying DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and cloud infrastructure, giving us a deep appreciation for our customers’ mission and end users’ priorities. We build for scale, architecting and prioritizing technical work for long term sustainability.

Control System Integration Specialist

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid), San Antonio, TX (Hybrid), Brooklyn, NY or Remote (US Based)

About the Role

As the Control System Integration Specialist, you will play a critical role in building a robust, secure, and highly compliant Control Systems (OT/CS) infrastructure. You will oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of our mission-critical Windows-based servers, drive rigorous patch validation strategies, and lead complex troubleshooting efforts to ensure operational stability. By partnering closely with our Engineering teams, you will ensure our platforms remain resilient, secure, and ready for the mission.

What Success Looks Like

  • 30 Days: Take ownership of theWindows and OT application escalation queue. Familiarize yourself with the core Control System applications and our baseline STIG configurations.
  • 60 Days: Successfully execute your first end-to-end patch validation cycle in a representative test environment, identifying any application conflicts before the patches hit production.
  • 90 Days: Autonomously troubleshoot complex OS-to-application failures, establish a tight feedback loop with the NOC to improve their runbooks, and assist the Senior engineers in automating test lab deployments.

What You’ll Do

  • Escalation Support: Act as the technical backstop for the NOC for challenging Control System issues. Dive deep into Windows internals (Event Viewer, Registry, Services, Performance Monitor) to resolve complex application and OS-level failures that standard monitoring tools miss.
  • Engineering & Deployment Advisor: Serve as the translation layer between legacy field hardware and modern platform engineering. Advise operations teams on the system limitations so they can design features and execute new deployments with absolute confidence.
  • Surgical Patch Execution & Lab Testing: Utilize representative lab sandboxes to safely deploy and validate monthly OS updates, third-party software patches, and configuration changes. Actively validate how new OS updates interact with fragile OT applications to ensure security never breaks mission capability.
  • STIG Implementation & Troubleshooting: Apply strict DISA STIGs to Windows environments and actively troubleshoot the functional impact those security hardening measures have on legacy or proprietary software.
  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Monitor, maintain, and optimize the underlying Windows OS configurations that host our CS applications, ensuring high availability and resource efficiency.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Translate your fixes into actionable runbooks. Close the loop with the NOC team after an escalation so they can catch the issue earlier next time.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years in Windows Systems Engineering or advanced Systems Administration, supporting complex, multi-server application environments.
  • Windows Internals Expertise: Strong hands-on ability to troubleshoot at the OS level (services, registry, permissions, deep log analysis) rather than just restarting the server.
  • STIG & Compliance Application: Practical experience applying and troubleshooting DISA STIGs or similar strict security baselines in a production environment.
  • Lab/Test Environment Usage: Experience utilizing test or staging environments to validate patches and updates before pushing to production.
  • Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD NIPR account and Common Access Card (CAC); must have or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Operational Technology (OT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS), or physical security applications (e.g., Building Management Systems, IDS).
  • Proficiency in PowerShell for automating administrative tasks, log collection, or basic system configurations.
  • Experience working alongside DevOps or Tier 1 NOC teams in an escalation capacity.
