BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Strategic and Operational Information Management (SOIM) function plays a critical role in creating and maintaining a common operational picture of WFP operations. With Country Offices (COs) reporting directly to the Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer (DED&COO), the need for a streamlined, coherent, and responsive flow of strategic and operational information is essential.

To support this shift, the DED&COO Office is consolidating the Operational Information Management global function to ensure that information flows between Global Headquarters (GHQ) and COs are timely, accurate, and strategically aligned. This consolidation enables a unified executive voice and strengthens evidence-based decision-making across all levels of the organization.

The SOIM function is responsible for coordinating, consolidating, and managing information flows, ensuring that WFP leadership has access to a consistent and comprehensive operational picture, while also reducing duplication and enhancing coherence in internal and external messaging.



ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Contribute to the development of systems, tools, standards, and guidance that support effective information management in line with WFP and UN policies and practices.

Provide technical advice and support to Country Offices on the integration of SOIM policies and guidance into established systems to drive the quality, consistency, standardization of information management and reporting across WFP.

Support Country Offices in drafting high-level briefs presenting operational information to the WFP Management as well as the corporate reporting products.

 Lead the consolidation of the Daily Operational Brief (DOB), coordinating with country offices and Global HQ as needed via OPSCEN-established processes.  

Promote automation and digital innovation in SOIM workflows to streamline processes, reduce duplication, and enable advanced analytics using corporate platforms and dashboards. 

Maintain regular formal and informal communication with assigned regional and country offices to ensure effective information flow between Global Headquarters (GHQ) and COs, including regular engagement with colleagues from cross functional teams to have an informed holistic view of issues impacting WFP. 

Backstop/support other team members and fill rotational coverage of COO processes

Key Competencies, Skills, Experience:

• Excellent writing skills in English with a demonstrated ability to research, draft and clear concise information products or analyses 

• Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, extract key insights, and communicate findings clearly to senior stakeholders. 

• Sound understanding of information and knowledge management principles, including familiarity with best practices, tools, and processes. 

• Knowledge of common business principles and processes, with the ability to quickly learn and navigate UN/WFP-specific systems and procedures. 

• Strong ability to use standard corporate software and Microsoft Office. 

• Experience with data visualization tools and techniques. 

• Proven ability to deliver high-quality outputs while managing competing priorities and tight deadlines. 

• High capacity for planning, organizing, and coordinating tasks independently within a diverse team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:


University degree in International Relations, Political Science, Conflict Analysis, Information Management, Journalism, Data Science or other relevant fields.



Experience:


Between 6 and 10 years of postgraduate related professional work experience.

Knowledge & Skills:


Ability to meet the deadlines and work under pressure as part of a team; strong written and visual communication skills; excellent analytical skills; ability to learn quickly; experience with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suites. Strong knowledge of social media platforms, including analytics. Ability to keep abreast of latest trends in communication methods. Knowledge of WFP’s and wider UN’s communication methods. Ability to work independently and in a team.



Languages:


Fluent in English, with excellent writing skills, and working knowledge. Good working knowledge (level B) of a second UN language, preferably Arabic, French, or Spanish.
