Summary: Provides expert, patient-centered clinical trial navigation and education to patients with blood cancer, caregivers, and healthcare providers. Conducts comprehensive nursing assessments to identify appropriate clinical trial opportunities and helps patients overcome barriers to enrollment by utilizing clinical expertise, specialized clinical trial databases, and collaboration with trial sites and sponsors to assess potential eligibility.  

Educates patients and caregivers about blood cancer diagnoses, standard-of-care treatments, and clinical trial options, empowering them to make informed treatment decisions throughout their cancer journey. Collaborates closely with Blood Cancer United's Information Resource Center (IRC) and other internal teams to connect patients and families with disease-specific education, financial assistance, psychosocial support, and additional resources that improve access to care and clinical trials.  

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Independently maintain own caseload of patients seeking information about clinical trials; this includes assessing, educating, and objectively presenting information to patients about available treatment options, including clinical trials 
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation of patient/caregiver related interactions and shared resources 
  • Use problem solving skills to help patients overcome obstacles to enrollment 
  • Collaborates with Blood Cancer United Information Resource Center (IRC) staff to educate and support patients and family members in their efforts to understand their diagnosis, treatment options and available services 
  • Serve in consulting role to the Information Resource Center and other internal departments about clinical trials 
  • Serves as a resource to Blood Cancer United Patient and Professional Education staff as they develop clinical trial related materials and programs. 
  • Maintain current knowledge in the blood cancer space through self-directed education offered through internal meetings and external sources.  
  • Contribute to continual process improvement of Clinical Trial Support Center procedures and workflow 
  • Develop and maintain collaborative, effective working relationships across Blood Cancer United and with clinical trial site staff, principal investigators, sponsors, patient advocacy organizations, and professional societies to advance the mission of the Clinical Trial Support Center. 
  •  Participate in initiatives that expand the reach and impact of the Clinical Trial Support Center (CTSC) among healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers—particularly within underserved communities—by sharing nursing expertise through internal and external meetings, presentations, and educational activities. 
  • Exhibit comprehensive understanding of ethical standards and federal regulations in human subjects research

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:    

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree required; Masters preferred. Master’s degree in non-nursing area considered 
  • Current RN licensure required 
  • Current clinical experience in adult and/or pediatric Oncology/Hematology acute care required; OCN or CPHON certification preferred; clinical research experience preferred 
  • Ability and desire to excel in independent work and in a team environment 
  • Spanish-speaking preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and support patients, caregivers, and team members in a remote environment. 
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality educational materials and deliver effective presentations to healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, and internal stakeholders. Ability and desire to excel in independent work and in a team environment 
  • Demonstrated commitment to independent learning and skill enhancement 
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and OneNote    

Physical Demands & Work Environment:  

  • Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations

  • Occasional travel to national oncology/hematology meetings
  • Must have reliable internet; minimum download speed 100mbps minimum upload speed 25mbps.

We are excited to share the base pay range for this position is $95K to $103K. The offered compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Blood Cancer United we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the current compensation of similarly situated roles and direct team members. Base compensation is only one component of our Total Rewards program, which also includes an annual incentive plan and a competitive benefits package.
