Clinical Governance Manager

Part-time, permanent. Occupational Health.

Home based. 24 hours per week. £50,000 full-time equivalent, pro rata.

MCL Medics is seeking an experienced occupational health professional to lead clinical governance across its occupational health services. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Occupational Health Medical Director, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing the organisation's clinical governance framework while remaining clinically active through a small management referral caseload.

About us

MCL Medics is a SEQOHS-accredited occupational health provider delivering services to employers across the UK. We provide management referrals, health surveillance, fitness for work assessments, pre-placement screening, safety-critical medicals and a range of workplace health services through a network of clinics and onsite delivery teams.

The organisation operates accredited quality, information security and health and safety management systems and employs a multidisciplinary team of occupational health clinicians throughout the UK.

The role

You will lead and maintain the clinical governance framework across the business, ensuring services remain compliant with professional, regulatory and accreditation standards. Key responsibilities include SEQOHS accreditation, clinical audit, incident management, practitioner competence and clinical quality assurance.

Approximately one-third of your time will be spent undertaking occupational health management referrals, with the remainder focused on governance, quality and assurance activities.

You will work closely with the CEO, Occupational Health Medical Director and clinical leads. The role has no direct line management responsibility.

What you will do

  • Lead SEQOHS accreditation and keep the evidence portfolio current against every standard.

  • Design and deliver the annual clinical audit programme, including in-person audits at our clinics and client sites, and see actions through to closure.

  • Manage clinical incident, complaint and duty of candour processes and share the learning.

  • Take part in the induction of every new clinical starter and confirm they are registered, certificated and signed off before they start seeing patients.

  • Maintain the competence framework, registration checks and CPD programme for OH physicians, advisors, nurses, technicians and physiotherapists.

  • Own medicines and vaccine governance, including patient group directions and cold chain, and the equipment calibration schedule.

  • Own the clinical parts of our ISO 9001 quality system and produce the quarterly clinical governance report for the CEO and the board.

  • Keep us ahead of changes in SEQOHS, FOM, NMC, HCPC, GMC, HSE and ICO guidance.

  • Carry a management referral caseload of around a third of your hours, by video, telephone or face to face.

What we are looking for

  • Current NMC, HCPC or GMC registration.

  • Significant experience in occupational health practice, including recent management referral case work.

  • Experience of leading, supporting or contributing to clinical governance, quality assurance, clinical risk management or service improvement activities within an occupational health or healthcare setting.

  • Working knowledge of SEQOHS standards and experience of clinical audit, incident investigation, quality improvement or accreditation processes.

  • A sound understanding of health surveillance, safety-critical medicals, consent, confidentiality, information governance, and medicines and vaccine management in a non-hospital setting.

  • The ability to analyse information, identify risks, and implement practical improvements that strengthen clinical quality and patient safety.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports, policies, procedures and governance documentation.

  • A proven ability to manage a varied workload independently, prioritise effectively and work collaboratively with clinical and operational colleagues.

  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel throughout the UK, including occasional overnight stays. This is an essential requirement of the role.

  • An occupational health qualification and experience of ISO 9001 quality management systems would be advantageous but are not essential.

What we offer

  • Salary of £50,000 full-time equivalent, paid pro rata.

  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, pro rata.

  • Home based, with a working pattern agreed with you and travel costs covered.

  • Pension, private medical, life assurance, CPD funding.

  • A role that keeps you clinically active while you shape governance in a clinically led, directly employed OH business rather than maintain someone else's system.

How to apply

Upload your CV and a short covering letter telling us about a clinical governance, quality improvement or patient safety initiative that you have contributed to. What was the issue, what actions were taken, and what was the outcome?

MCL Medics is a Disability Confident and equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified people and will consider reasonable adjustments at every stage.
