AI Summary

The Chief of Staff supports the CMO by managing strategic projects, leadership processes, and cross-functional initiatives to ensure organizational effectiveness. This role acts as a proxy for the CMO, synthesizing complex information and driving follow-through on key action items across the marketing organization.

Your job

The Chief of Staff to the CMO is a critical role that supports the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) directly.

This role operates largely behind the scenes and spans a wide range of responsibilities, from logistical coordination to leading strategic projects and managing leadership relationships and processes, often at a high tempo. A central aspect of the role is connecting the dots across leaders, priorities, and challenges throughout Indeed. You will frequently step into situations where you are not the final owner, moving fluidly from project to project as needed, whether to address an emerging issue, get an initiative back on track, or explore an analytical question, before transitioning ownership to others.

This includes enabling the CMO’s effectiveness through time and process management, delegation, and relationship coordination, at times involving administrative work, serving as the CMO’s proxy in select contexts, simplifying priorities and synthesizing communication, managing Marketing Leadership Team (MLT) processes, driving rapid follow-through on a wide range of issues, tracking and ensuring completion of CMO action items.

Who you are

  • Partner with senior leaders to drive priorities, improve focus, and ensure effective execution across the organization.
  • Manager and support cross-functional initiatives, from early problem definition through delivery and transition to long-term owners.
  • Establish and manage operating rhythms, including planning cycles, leadership meetings, and decision-making processes.
  • Synthesize complex information into clear updates, recommendations, and communications for leadership.
  • Track key initiatives and action items, ensuring follow-through and timely resolution of issues.
  • Act as a representative for leadership in select forums, facilitating alignment and progress.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, remove friction, and increase organizational effectiveness.

Who we are

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of 15 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 12 years of experience; or a PhD with 8 years experience
  • Clear and concise communicator across all functions, with an understanding of all areas of Marketing (from Brand to segmentation to Communications)
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships and trust across many partners
  • Organized and a quick learner; Proven simplifier and highly analytical
  • Autonomous executor that can thrive in ambiguity
  • Willingness to challenge consensus and senior leaders, including the CMO; Keep confidential and compartmentalize a lot of sensitive information
  • Sporadic travel (2-4x / year)
