And do you want to make healthcare safer, better and more reliable?
Join our Team!
Join us as our Chief Data Architect at Dedalus, one of the World’s leading healthcare technology companies, based remotely anywhere in Europe, to do the best work of your career and make a profound impact in providing better care for a healthier planet.
What you’ll achieve
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will own the architecture and technical direction of Dedalus’s data platform end-to-end starting with key assets:
De-identified European clinical data repository
The data plane tied to the company-wide agentic AI strategy i.e. semantic data layer, event trace and audit architecture.
A primary early objective is to design these as three interconnected programmes with independent timelines based on what is already in place, removing mutual blocking and accelerating overall AI readiness.
The vision is for the Enterprise Data platform to be comprised of much more than this, including additional internal knowledge and capabilities
This is a senior individual contributor and leadership role.
The person in this role will:
Work hands on with engineering teams across products to refine and validate architectural decisions and deliver against them.
Define and implement technology choices across the data stack: processing engines, analytical platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalent), vector stores, streaming infrastructure, and governance tooling.
Define the semantic layer that enables AI agents to query clinical data with consistent, domain-appropriate vocabulary across ORBIS’s fragmented product estate.
De-identified European Data repository
T4C connects hospitals, pharmaceutical sponsors, and research institutions for clinical trial matching, cohort identification, and real-world evidence.
Gravity is the centralised repository receiving anonymised, FHIR-coded clinical data from T4C deployments. It holds a demographically specific European clinical dataset with no global equivalent. The Chief Data Architect will define the medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold), and be responsible for the data pipelines for phenotypic and, eventually, genotypic data to support precision medicine use cases from 2028 onwards.
Data Plane in an Agentic Infrastructure
Dedalus’s agentic AI architecture separates agent logic from platform infrastructure. The data plane, event ingestion, audit data storage, feedback loops, telemetry, and observability data, is Dedalus-owned and Dedalus-controlled. Also agents require a homogenous language to reason over and therefore an overall semantic layer is required. The Chief Data Architect will define what this looks like at production scale across use cases (agentic AI for our SDLC as well as for the Dedalus product capabilities), and in compliance with data protection and the EU AI Act.
Enterprise Data Platform — Build from Scratch
No enterprise data capability currently exists. Clinical, population, and operational data are distributed across products products, each with its own format and access model. The Chief Data Architect will design and own a data fabric with lakehouse architecture providing: read-by-reference access across application systems without requiring full data transformation; a medallion model for progressive data refinement.
Take the next step towards your dream career
At Dedalus Life flows through our software. Every day we do something special by helping caregivers and health professionals deliver better care to their served communities. Take the next step in your career that will make a profound impact. Here’s what you’ll need to succeed:
Essential Requirements:
Healthcare Domain
Substantial experience building data platforms in regulated healthcare or life sciences. You understand clinical data models (FHIR, HL7, ICD, OPS, SNOMED, LOINC, RXNORM) at an architectural level.
Multimodal Clinical Data Architecture
Demonstrated experience architecting platforms that integrate heterogeneous diagnostic data domains
Lived experience with GDPR/DSGVO as an architectural constraint. You have designed consent management, anonymisation pipelines, and cross-jurisdiction data access frameworks.
Familiarity with the MDR/SaMD regulatory landscape and what it means to build data infrastructure that feeds certified medical device software.
Data Platform Engineering
Production hands-on experience with modern data stack components: Databricks and/or Snowflake, streaming infrastructure (Kafka or equivalent), dbt or similar transformation tooling, and lakehouse/data fabric architectural patterns.
Experience designing medallion architectures (bronze/silver/gold) and read-by-reference data access patterns that decouple consumers from source system transformation timelines.
Demonstrated ability to design and deliver data extraction and standardisation pipelines at hospital or enterprise scale
Strong opinions on when Databricks vs Snowflake vs Spark vs something else is the right choice, and why.
You have successfully built data pipelines in production
AI-Native Architecture
You understand what data infrastructure for AI systems requires: event granularity and latency for agent triggering, RAG indexing and retrieval patterns, feedback loop and RLHF data capture, observability at the model and agent level, and audit trail design for regulatory inspection.
Experience or deep understanding of MCP-style tool schema design: versioned, semantic API surfaces that agents can discover and consume reliably.
Interoperability
Experience designing platforms intended to be consumed by third parties: schema versioning, backward compatibility, deprecation policy, and the governance discipline that platform-building requires.
Working knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR R4/R5, DC4H, HL7 v2/v3) and what it takes to build a canonical semantic layer on top of a fragmented legacy product estate.
Leadership
Credibility with engineers — not as a manager, but as someone who has done the work and can be trusted on the hard decisions.
Experience setting technical direction across multiple product lines and geographies, including managing architectural disagreements constructively.
Desirable Requirements
Direct experience with genomic or multi-omics data management, governance, and storage architecture.
Experience architecting or contributing to a federated learning or privacy-preserving ML infrastructure in a healthcare context.
Experience working within or alongside a clinical trial matching or real-world evidence platform (e.g., similar to T4C / Gravity).
Previous experience in a PE-backed or pre-IPO technology company navigating capital markets scrutiny of data strategy.
Familiarity with EU AI Act Annex IV technical documentation requirements for high-risk AI systems.
