Position Summary:

Timothy Wideman, Associate Professor at McGill University, is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to work on a CIHR-funded, research project that aims to improve entry-level pain education across Canadian physiotherapy (PT) programs. Under the direction of the Lab Manager and Principal Investigator, the incumbent will assist with the planning, coordination and administration of a national pilot randomized controlled trial and other projects/studies as needed. The incumbent will also attend lab meetings, project meetings and participate in training sessions.

This is a part-time casual position (10-20 hours/week), with duties including, but not limited to assisting the lab manager with:

• The planning and administration of educational modules and a national competency assessment in PT pain management
• Scheduling different parties involved in the educational sessions and assessments (e.g., simulated patient actors, facilitators, students)
• Scheduling rehearsal and training sessions
• Developing and maintaining detailed schedules for each assessment session
• Preparing and updating study documents
• Ensuring all parties receive the required documentation and information for each assessment session
• Data collection; including facilitating the virtual simulation-based assessment
• Coordinating the work of assessment evaluators
• Compensating participants for their time
• Organizing the data and datasets
  • Quality control – ensure those facilitating the assessment have submitted all required files, identify missing data and taking the necessary steps to recover files 
  • Organizing video/audio recordings from the assessment sessions
  • Maintaining participant confidentiality by properly securing all study documents and keeping participant names or other identifiable information separate from study ID numbers at all times

• Creating and administering surveys using LimeSurvey and compiling results
• Ethics renewals/amendments
• Assisting as needed on other projects/studies
• Clear and timely communication across stakeholders

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following qualities and skills:

• Bilingual (Fluency in French and English) – Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential
• Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 4 on a scale of 0-4
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and in a team
• High level of flexibility, adaptability, and attention to details
• Meticulous
• Strong ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet time sensitive deadlines

The ideal candidates will have the following experience/credentials:

• Applicants must be pursuing or hold a minimum undergraduate degree relevant to the position
• Previous work experience in a similar role is an asset
• Experience working in clinical health research with human subjects preferred
• Superior computer skills including a good knowledge of Microsoft’s Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, including OneDrive)
• Experience using database management software (e.g., SPSS, Redcap, Limesurvey)
• Experience using online video conferencing platforms such as Zoom
• Home office requirements: e.g. access to your own personal computer with microphone and camera, reliable and fast internet connection, ability to download Zoom application and recordings.

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 on a scale of 0-4.
