C++ Software Engineer

Type: Contract, per-project.
Location: Remote - within LATAM time zones (GMT-3 to GMT-5) - Remote with meetings across U.S. time zones
Availability: Contractor (40 hours per week)

We’re looking for a mid-level to senior C++ Software Engineer to work on native Windows components and APIs within the Store ecosystem.

This is a systems-level engineering role for someone comfortable with low-level code, technical ambiguity, and complex investigation—not general application development.

What You Will Do

• Develop and maintain native C++ components and Windows platform APIs.

• Diagnose, reproduce, profile, and debug complex OS-level issues.

• Implement features and fixes, validate them across supported Windows versions, and support compatibility and backporting work.

• Investigate security, reliability, and performance issues, sometimes within time-sensitive release cycles.

• Take ownership of problems from initial investigation through testing and delivery, collaborating with engineers across different areas.

What You Bring

• Strong hands-on experience with modern C++—ideally C++17 or newer—including pointers, memory management, RAII, ownership, and object lifetime.

• Practical experience with multithreaded programming, synchronisation, concurrency, and safe management of shared state.

• Strong debugging and diagnostic skills, including the ability to reproduce difficult issues and isolate root causes.

• Ability to navigate large codebases, read source code and technical documentation, and learn unfamiliar technologies independently.

• Clear professional English, strong ownership, and the ability to communicate progress, risks, and expectations effectively.

Relevant Backgrounds

Strong candidates may come from systems programming, native development, embedded software, driver development, gaming or engine development, electronics, or hardware-integrated software.

Experience with other low-level languages involving explicit memory management is valuable, but you must be able to work productively in modern C++.

Helpful Experience

• Native Windows development, Win32, Windows internals, C++/WinRT, WinRT APIs, WIL, or COM.

• Windows concurrency technologies such as SRWLocks or Windows Thread Pools.

• Windows platform services such as the Registry, Group Policy, or Scheduled Tasks.

• Visual Studio, WinDbg, multithreaded debugging, profiling, or troubleshooting compilation and linking issues.

• Experience testing platform-level changes across OS versions or supporting security and compatibility fixes.

• Effective use of AI tools to accelerate investigation and development while validating the results.
