Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and engaging part-time instructor to teach neuroscience using Brain Facts as the primary textbook and prepare high school students for the Brain Bee competition. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in neuroscience, biology, psychology, cognitive science, medicine, or a related field. Candidates should be familiar with the Brain Bee competition structure, subject areas, and common question formats. They must be able to guide students through both foundational neuroscience coursework and competition-specific preparation.
This position goes beyond general science tutoring. The instructor will be responsible for developing a structured preparation plan, teaching the required neuroscience content, introducing students to Brain Bee question formats, and conducting targeted practice sessions and mock competitions.

Key Responsibilities
● Teach core neuroscience concepts using Brain Facts as the primary textbook, including neuroanatomy, neural communication, sensory and motor systems, cognition, brain development, and neurological disorders.
● Develop a structured preparation plan based on each student’s academic background and competition timeline.
● Familiarize students with Brain Bee rules, content areas, and common question formats.
● Prepare students for written questions, oral or game board-style Q&A, neuroanatomy identification, clinical reasoning questions, and other competition components.
● Create or select appropriate study guides, practice questions, quizzes, and mock exams.
● Help students connect brain structures with their functions, neural pathways, symptoms, and related disorders.
● Track student progress, provide regular feedback, and adjust instruction based on individual needs.
● Communicate with Novel Prep’s academic team regarding lesson plans, student progress, and competition readiness.

Requirements
● Bachelor’s degree or higher in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Biomedical Science, Medicine, or a closely related field.
● Strong knowledge of neuroscience, neuroanatomy, human physiology, and neurological disorders.
● Familiarity with the Brain Bee competition, its content areas, and its common question formats.
● Ability to teach advanced scientific concepts clearly to students in grades 8–12.
● Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or working with middle or high school students.
● Strong communication, organization, and lesson-planning skills.
● Ability to create a structured preparation plan and adjust instruction based on student performance.
● Reliable availability during after-school hours and/or weekends.

Preferred Qualifications
● Previous experience coaching or preparing students for a Local, National, or International Brain Bee competition.
● Personal participation in Brain Bee or another neuroscience, biology, medical, or science competition.
● Familiarity with Brain Facts, Neuroscience: The Science of the Brain, or other recognized Brain Bee study resources.
● Experience developing competition curricula, practice questions, or mock exams.
