The Behavioral Health Fellow provides direct behavioral health and telehealth services to rural residents in Hawaii. They perform assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and deliver solution-focused treatments as part of a multidisciplinary team.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under LCSW Supervision, the Behavioral Health Fellow provides direct behavioral health and telehealth services to Hawaiʻi residents living in rural areas, including brief, solution-focused treatments, according to a plan of care developed from assessment and diagnostic evaluation.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education/Training
Minimum:
- Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling from an accredited college or university of recognized standing, with work in a Social and/or Health Sciences field.
Experience
Preferred:
- Familiarity with psychotropic medication usage and monitoring, and/or clinical judgment of when to refer patients to their primary care providers or psychiatry for medication evaluation and management.
- Familiarity with chronic diseases, training in Behavioral Medicine and Health Psychology.
Skills Knowledge
Minimum:
- Ability to manage a large and varied caseload.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish positive public relations and interact effectively with other faculty, staff, and patients
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, which includes knowledge regarding integrated behavioral health.
- Demonstrated proficiency in motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy interventions to promote health behavior change.
- Basic understanding of Hawaiian history, culture, and language as it relates to intergenerational trauma and pathways of resilience.
- Experience delivering culturally responsive assessments and treatment strategies.
Preferred:
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of developing and emerging concepts, principles, and issues facing Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders.
