Azure Senior Cloud Infrastructure Consultant

Location: Johannesburg preferred

Work arrangement: Remote

Salary: R110 000 – R120 000 per month

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Cloud Infrastructure Consultant to design, implement and maintain secure, scalable and resilient cloud solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform.

You will work closely with clients, project teams and developers to architect complex Azure environments, optimise existing solutions and advise on the most appropriate cloud technologies. This role requires deep expertise across Azure infrastructure, networking, databases, security, automation and application architecture.

You will also champion DevOps and DevSecOps practices, contribute to data engineering initiatives and explore how AI can improve operational efficiency within Azure environments.

Key responsibilities

Azure architecture and infrastructure

• Architect secure, scalable and highly available Azure environments across compute, storage, networking and database services.
• Design Azure networking solutions that support high availability and disaster recovery.
• Interpret existing solution architectures and recommend improvements to reliability, recoverability, monitoring, security and cost efficiency.
• Advise development teams on the most suitable Azure technologies for application performance, scalability and resilience.
• Support hybrid-cloud integrations between Azure and on-premises environments.
• Troubleshoot complex Azure networking configurations, including VPNs, DNS, load balancers and firewalls.

Security and compliance

• Develop and enforce cloud security and compliance policies.
• Implement security controls using Azure Policy, Microsoft Defender for Cloud and related Azure security services.
• Collaborate with security teams to identify, manage and mitigate cloud risks.
• Apply data governance and lifecycle-management principles to Azure solutions.
• Develop controls to secure AI agents operating within client environments.

DevOps and automation

• Automate the deployment, scaling and management of Azure resources.
• Implement infrastructure as code using Bicep and ARM templates, with Terraform experience advantageous.
• Champion DevOps and DevSecOps practices across client and project environments.
• Use PowerShell, Python or similar scripting languages to automate infrastructure and operational tasks.

Data and AI

• Provide technical guidance on databases, data warehousing and data engineering initiatives.
• Work with Azure data technologies such as Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB and Microsoft Fabric.
• Explore and implement AI-driven automation for operational tasks.

Consulting and leadership

• Lead client workshops and project meetings to gather requirements and drive implementations.
• Translate complex technical requirements into clear, stakeholder-friendly recommendations.
• Mentor junior team members on Azure technologies and cloud best practices.
• Maintain accurate technical and environmental documentation.
• Support presales activities, including solution design, cost estimation, competitive analysis and client demonstrations.

Minimum requirements

• At least 7 years' experience implementing or administering Microsoft technologies.
• At least 3 years' hands-on experience implementing Microsoft Azure solutions across multiple resource types beyond virtual machines.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing secure, scalable Azure environments.
• Strong infrastructure, networking and database expertise.
• Advanced knowledge of Azure application architecture and service dependencies.
• Experience with Azure networking, high availability and disaster-recovery solutions.
• Practical experience with Azure DevOps, automation and DevSecOps methodologies.
• Experience using Bicep and ARM templates for Azure deployments.
• Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python or a similar language.
• Experience working with hybrid-cloud environments and on-premises integrations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong client-facing consulting, workshop facilitation and presentation experience.

• SC-400: Microsoft Information Protection and Compliance Administrator
• A diploma or degree in IT Engineering, Computer Science or a related field would be advantageous.
