Element 84 is seeking an experienced and motivated DevOps Engineer with a strong background in building and maintaining reliable, scalable cloud systems in AWS and Azure and a proven record of utilizing infrastructure as code in complex deployments to support our innovative projects.
In this role, you'll be instrumental in the design, implementation, and operation of cloud-native solutions for complex operational systems, collaborating closely with technical teams and customers.
The ideal candidate will possess expertise in designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise-grade software within cloud environments, with a strong emphasis on Azure specific environments. While direct experience with geospatial applications isn't required, a curiosity and aptitude for working in this domain will be beneficial.
Collaborating with development teams for the design and implementation of robust, scalable, and secure cloud-native solutions on Azure and AWS.
Developing and maintaining infrastructure-as-code to manage and provision infrastructure across numerous Azure and AWS accounts, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
Maintaining and optimizing CI/CD automation pipelines to facilitate rapid and reliable software deployments.
Collaborating with security experts to translate organizational security requirements into secure and compliant cloud implementations.
Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle from user story generation, through design, development, automated testing and operational support
Improve quality by actively participating in code-reviews and adhering to team quality standards.
Own execution of small-medium sized features with higher-level technical support

Here are the guidelines we're looking at to gauge experience and skillset:
4-6 total years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, including 2+ years working with Azure Tools and Environments.
Proven experience provisioning, configuring, and managing secure, scalable cloud environments within Microsoft Azure, utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining workloads using core Azure tools and services (such as Azure Pipelines, Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates or Bicep, Azure Monitor, and Microsoft Entra ID)
Writing and maintaining infrastructure as Code (Cloudformation, Terraform, CDK)
Working experience with deploying and managing containerized applications and platforms in Kubernetes, Helm Charts, Docker, etc.
Ability to clearly document and communicate architectural concepts, cloud architecture patterns, and tradeoffs at multiple levels, including delivering presentations, creating visual designs, and writing white papers
Experience working with an Agile Development software team
Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch, ELK stack, New Relic, Splunk, etc.)
Strong experience with data engineering tools and technologies (SQL, NoSQL, DynamoDB, Postgres, Redshift, Athena, Glue, etc.)
Strong experience with Linux environments
Working experience with cloud architecture patterns and tradeoffs (Serverless, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
Working understanding of code and script (Python, Go, Javascript, and TypeScript)
Experience with web server technologies (Nginx, Puma, Unicorn, and/or Tomcat)
Outstanding all-round communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and proficiently in a remote environment
An AWS foundational level certification (e.g. Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, AWS Cloud Practitioner or AI Practitioner) or willingness to obtain one
Experience with Generative AI technologies
Experience working in regulated contexts (e.g., NIST 800-53, PCI, HIPAA)
Experience developing on MacOS X
Experience with authentication and authorization technologies (e.g., SAML, SSO, AWS Cognito, JWT, OAuth, OPA, Ranger).
Demonstrated ability to proactively learn and integrate new technologies into existing workflows.
Familiarity with geospatial data processing, analysis, or visualization tools and concepts.

The salary range for this position is $120,000-$150,000. Actual compensation offered to candidate will be finalized at offer and may be above or below the posted range due to skill level, experience, industry-specific knowledge, education/certifications, or geographic location. Base salary represents just one component of the Element 84 total compensation package. Employees will also receive a number of benefits as listed below. Other compensation for this position may include bonus eligibility (dependent on employee performance and company profits).
